"Obama's Baby Mama?" The pound she shared with her husband that was really a "terrorist fist jab?" When she thinks nobody's listening she loves to use the pejorative "whitey?" C'mon, do the Reactionary Regressives really want to shape the campaign on demonizing Barack Obama's wife Michelle?
They might as well take out a full page ad in the Weekly Standard announcing: EEH, WE GOT NOTHING
First off, demonizing the potential first lady; didn't they try that with Hillary Clinton? All that got them was eight years of Bill in the White House, and eventually Mrs. C as Senator from New York. Seriously, before the far Right Retro Guard gets too far down that road they might want to move on to Plan D.
Does the Right really want to go after a politician's wife? Remember what Dick Nixon was able to do with Pat's cloth coat. Stand back from the pillar of fire that's gonna rain from on high when Barack unleashes all his oratorical powers and smites the transgressors who dare...transgress the sanctity of his marriage.
Short of that, stand back when Michelle does Oprah and they get to crying and all the soccer moms recall repressed gender memories of how much they can't stand woman-bashing.
But to bring it all back home: Obama's Baby Mama? Somewhere, even Don Imus is shaking his head in disgust. Did no one at that Fox Chyron department know how to spell "Negress?" And I want to be very careful here not to denigrate "baby mamas." I'm not getting bent over how other people form their relationships. But what galls is the idea that to them -- to them -- married, single, with children or without all back women are the same and good for one thing: no more consideration than black women have gotten from Tom Jefferson through Strom Thurmond and right up to the aforementioned Imus.
And you think the Right would have learned something from the Imus affair. You think they would have learned what it looks like when the wagons circle and indignation -- be it righteous or faux pious -- rises up.
Clearly they have not.
So, keep on, I say, playing your Mi-chelle game. Keep on demonstrating that you've got nothing to say about the economy or the dollar or an energy policy. Health care or immigration. The war, National Security. Keep on putting into full effect that you are bereft of any idea that is any deeper than flicking a finger at a man's Mrs.

The Right learn? Don't think so.
The slogan for the 21st century version of the United States:
"Welcome to the United States, the land of the free, home of the brave, and opportunities for all, unless you are a person of color or a woman. If you don't like it, you're welcome to leave."
We are the Repugnicant party, and we approve of this message.
Want to compare potential 1st ladies? The media needs to discuss Cindy McCain's drug addiction/theft history pre-rehab. Also accused of shoplifting. Are these really the qualities we want in our 'First Lady'?.... .I don't think so. WE WILL BE STAYING ON THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!

And let's not forget Cindy McCain, "home-wrec ker."
Yes, how many "baby mommas" DOES McCain have, and does he have another "baby momma," Vicki Iseman, waiting in the wings?
if these fools really think they want to play MO against Cindy Lou - go for it!
Cindy Lou is a One-Woman Scandal Machine
really want to go there?
"Do the Reactionary Regressives really want to shape the campaign on demonizing Barack Obama's wife?"
Actually they wanted to shape the campaign on demonizing Bill Clinton's wife, but that didn't work out quite the way they planned, so they've had to scramble to come up with a "Plan B". :-)
word
The republican party have always used mean spirited strategies against the democrats. For every hateful strategy they uses, there are Native Americans who have registered for vote for Obama, there are decent republicans who had left that party and joined the dems. There are former Hillary suporters who listened to Hillary, and will not look back, but will instead ,support the dem ticket. There are hispanics who respect Hillary and will follow her lead. There are many caucasians who realize Washington has turned its back on the America people and will vote a democrat into office in November. All across this country, Americans are responding to the unpatriotic actions of the republicans in their approach to the Obamas, and have said, not this time, and not this election period. We have seen this done too many times, to too many people in the past, including past politicians. The democrats are uniting the party, because 4 more years of these jokers is not an option for people who have family values.
The only thing I hear from McCain is 'war'. He uses that word way too much.
Regardless of McCain's pro war stance, and lack of diplomacy the right will do the only thing they know, and that is to 'swift boat' the opposition. Apparently even the candidate's wife is fair game.
Faux news, what a bunch of crooks. Where are their family values? Where was the outraged when MCCleallan accused the white house of perpetual campaign in washington?
John Ridley, I did a double-take when I saw your photo and that you, a black man, wrote this traitorous tripe packaged as a slick effort to minimize what has happened and keeping readers from getting mad at you if you told the full-bodied truth.
This article is dishonest because it compares the trashing of other President's wives with the treatment of Michelle Obama. Attacks on her have oozed with racism - and is a racist, social commentary on ALL African-Americans.
I'm not sure HuffPo will publish this comment, but I sure they do. It's a legitimate black opinion and he needs to hear it.
Huh? Traitorous? It's traitorous to think that calling a man's wife his "baby mama" is wrong? It's "tripe" to believe attacking an opponent's wife is wrong? This black woman would like to know.
"To minimze what has happened"?
Were we reading the same article?
The entire nation is watching; still, the racist bigots haven't figured it out. If the republicans continue down this destructive path, we can all expect there to be no more America as we know it. I wonder if they even care.
"If the republicans continue down this destructive path, we can all expect there to be no more America as we know it."
I have got breaking news for you: This is exactly the America that I, as a minority, and millions of others like me have known for what seems like an eternity. This country feeds on racism. Our culture revolves around racism. The irony is that America projects herself as a country that offers equality, freedom and justice for all -- yet, this is simply not true. Never has been and probably never will be. I can tell you from 50 years of experience that this not true.
We all heard Cindy McCain's response to Michelle's statement that "for the first time in my life, I am really proud of America." Cindy gleefully replied, "I am proud of America!" Well, of course Cindy is proud to live in a country that gives full advantage to people like her: rich, blonde, blue-eyed, European-descended "all-American" types who are placed at the front of every line -- figuratively as well as literally. Cindy has never experienced a single incident of racial discrimination. Michelle, on the other hand, has undoubtedly dealt with so many incidents of racism, that if she hasn't developed a complex, or a low self esteem, or a disdain for European Americans, then she deserves the utmost respect from us.
With an uninspiring candidate that is out of step with the American voter the republicans will revert to what they do best.
I would love to see the GOP/Fox News treatment of Condi Rice if she was a Democrat. I bet it would be exactly the same.
What else would you expect from a bunch of demoralized has-been sick bastards? Let the far right fear mongers nail the last nail on their coffins, America can do without these mean spirited twits.
Bring it on
Dear leader
Ridley's take on politics and people is never boring! Let me say the right has been bereft of ideas for decades. Conservative ideology was disastrous over 100 years ago, yet periodically it's resurrected as if these ideas were somehow going to improve with age.
tever it took to win. If good people were destroyed. ..who cared because all that matter was winning. Personalizing politics has been around for as long as we've had politicians; the right has merely elevated negative politics and personal attacks to an art form. It's nice to see a conservative repelled by these tactics: I wonder where Ridley's been for the past 20 years. Mr. Ridley should accept that his conservati ve/liberta rian ideology has no solutions to the present economic crisis: Once he does, he may come to understand the desperation the right's political leadership.
.good riddance. I hope some form of conservative movement remains however because the left functions best when it's ideas of social and economic justice are fairly challenged.
Forty years ago, Republicans understood their economic policies could never appeal to the majority so they spent four decades honing their skills at getting voters to cut their own economic throats using personal attacks, diverting voter attention from issues that matter, playing the race card...wha
With a little luck and astute politics by the left (I confess this will probably prove difficult), we may see the permanent demise of the the present right wing political alliance..
"Um, uh, we got nothing... N-U-U-U-H- H-T-H-I-N- G!"
