Your Pocket Guide to Speaking Palin-guage (Vol. 1)

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

Up in the Twin Cities area folks are speaking a new language. Or, should I say Palinguage. It sounds sorta familiar because it's Latin based. But different from the plain English we're used to speaking, in Palinguage recognizable words take on new meanings. Won't you take a moment to learn some Plainguage so you can talk like a hypocritical conservative?

REPEAT THE FOLLOWING:

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire." If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

If you live in an Urban area and you get a girl pregnant you're a "baby daddy." If you're the same in Alaska you're a "teen father." (Actually, according to your own MySpace page you're an F'n redneck that don't want any kids, but that's too long a phrase for the evil liberal media to take out of context and flog morning noon and night).

Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America. White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic." Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic." Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude."

A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information."

And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's recurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK.

Got some Palinguage? They're keeping tabs here.

Thanks. Now I get it.

And tomorrow I'm going to begin researching which country I will move to if these people win.

She is a former news reporter who knows how to read a tele-prompter, speaking a prepackaged script written for her by her Republican handlers. They tell her what to say, they tell her what to think, and then she throws in the embarrashing comments about being a hockey mom and we are all supposed to think she is Presidential material. I am both insulted and afraid of all the manipulation and lies.

I frequently disagree with Mr. Ridley but one thing's seems clear enough: The man is an honest conservative and today that's a rare breed. Books have and will continue to be written about conservative hypocrisy but not enough can ever be said about it. Ridley lays out the bizarre nature of modern conservative logic but what he doesn't touch on is why conservatives say what they do and with such conviction. The answer is rather easy to understand: It's the win at any cost mentality. No lie or deed is too awful if it results in winning. Disenfranchise voters, destroy individuals, lie, cheat, steal, torture, whatever... this sadly is what the GOP has come to represent and it's why they will sustain a historical loss in November.

And if you're a pregnant teen in Alaska who's mother isn't the governor...

"You're on your own."

As I listened to Obama's speech, it occurred to me that his story could not happen today. FDR and the New Deal set an environment where he, by hard work and taking certainly the path less chosen by the Harvard Law Review presidents, has become a self-made man. And, from everything I have taken in, a man of considerable depth and gravity.

Stuff you can't put in a sound bite.

To Editor: The word "hate" in my previous comment was supposed to be "haste" - a type-o. Sorry about that.

We really ought to know more about the vetting process Senator McCain engaged in when choosing Governor Palin. The opacity of his process and hate of his decision may indicate how he will approach other important considerations in the future. We already know of his infamous temprament. How might he take decisions under pressure? How might he approach a difficult situation? And indeed, how might he nominate candidates for the Supreme Court? These are important questions, and I think we're getting distracted by the anti-media, sexism argument.

I completely agree.

Top-tier decision makers of corporate businesses across this country are legally held to strict standards of recruitment and hiring. A negligent hire at any level can lead to all sorts of issues and the hiring company may be liable for damages caused as the result of negligently hiring an unfit employee. And, as many corporate leaders know, a negligent hire at an executive-level can be fatal. This week, John McCain showed us just how negligent his staffing process can be when he nominated Sarah Palin as his VP nominee, after, according to the New York Times, only having met her once...
