McCain Star in His First TV Spot

While the Democratic Party is making up its mind between Senators Clinton and Obama, Senator McCain has produced his first TV spot.

It brings up Iraq indirectly as a test of national courage ("We will never surrender"), and emphasizes McCain's status as a POW in North Vietnam 40 years ago. Ad Age says: "Want Us to Forget about Iraq? Maybe Don't Bring Up Nam."

Showing us McCain's medal also reminds us of the 2004 Swiftboating of Senator Kerry's Silver and Bronze Stars and three Purple Hearts. McCain properly disavowed the Swiftboaters, but their activities have tarnished his own Silver Star.

I was watching the movie "300" last night and realized that a lot of McCain's talking points seem to have come right out of the scripted dialogue of Sparta's King Leonides. Unfortunately for McCain, we do not live nor do we want to live in a militarist society where every aspect of life revolves around prepping for war and going to war. Judging by McCain's chosen biographical highlights last week, it is apparent that he has a different world view.
