Anti-Veteran Cornyn Within Reach

There is some great news coming from Texas, where two polls show that Afghanistan Veteran, Rick Noriega, is well within striking distance of Senator John Cornyn.

A recent Rasmussen Poll finds that Cornyn now only leads by four points - 47-43. Now, before you dismiss it as just one poll, Research 2000 took a look and found the same thing, a four point game, 48-44. These two polls are striking. Not only is Noriega within reach, but he's keeping Cornyn, an incumbent Senator, under 50 percent.

Rick Noriega is a model candidate for what VoteVets.org was formed to do - elect Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to Congress. He has taken on John Cornyn's dismal record on veterans' and military issues, holding his feet to the fire like no one has before. Rick is also using his experience to display an incredible clarity of thought and vision about what his own personal mission will be once he gets to the Senate. In short, he's showing himself to be a leader.

Cornyn is so scared that he recently put up this bogus petition on his website, urging Harry Reid to not let Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton vote on a veterans' care bill. This coming from the guy who votes against Disabled American Veterans more often than he votes with them. This coming from the guy who opposes the common-sense, bi-partisan Webb-Hagel GI Bill. This coming from the guy who voted against Body Armor with his former Senate colleagues that were targeted with this ad.

Obviously, Senator Cornyn's tricks and spin don't fool the voters of Texas, and most of the credit for that can be tracked back to Rick Noriega, who doesn't give Cornyn an inch of slack.

In such a big state, there's little doubt that Rick can use all the help you can afford. I'd encourage everyone to go to Rick's site and sign-up and consider giving this fine veteran your help. John Cornyn might not thank you, but veterans will!

Went to Cornyn's website petition. It has a place for comments. Filled out the form and added comments asking for Sen. Reid to expel Cornyn from the Senate on the grounds of his anti-American activities and incompetence.

Cornyn is bad even by Texas standards.

I live in Texas and this is the first I've heard of this. Man, I hope you are right. Until the neocons came to power, Texas Republicans were more closet Democrats than goosestepping Republican lunatics.

In the Bush era, they are scary.

OMG, I can't stand Cornyn. He has been a Bush lover from day one and not only that he is Bush's lap dog. Put the picture up of him standing next to Hagee and McCain. This politician needs to go. I live in Kingwood, TX which is full of Republicans that love him. I am going to Noriega's site and contribute. I want this Bush lover gone. Everyone please help us out, it's painful to live here.

OMG if could only happen - I might feel like i am not living in some maverick banana republic.I will check into Noriega;s campaign and throw him support. Can you believe I just got this letter from Cornyn , after contacting his office about use of torture.

"Thank you for contacting me about treatment of enemy combatants and prisoners of war. I appreciate having the benefit of your comments on this matter.

President George W. Bush has unequivocally and repeatedly articulated and enforced a policy that rejects the use of torture. I share the President's strong opposition to torture, and as a member of the Senate Judiciary and Armed Services Committees, I am committed to ensuring that all detainees are treated humanely and in accordance with our laws and treaty obligations."

This AFTER Bush admitted on tv that he was aware and signed off on torture.Cornyn is scum , defined.Time to clean the sewer that is Texas Repug politics..

Go Noriega!

I can't even imagine having a democratic senator in Texas. It's just too mind boggling to believe that my state's residents have/can wake up and see Cornyn for what he is. Cornyn and Hutchinson will gladly jump off any cliff that Bush points too, and are more than willing to keep us in Iraq forever. Noriega needs your donations folks, it's easy to do online and it can help make Texas a much better place. Cornyn needs to go, sending Rick Noriega a $25 donation won't hurt a bit

Go Noriega! Dallas will support him, and here's hoping that the voter registration drive will help Democrats to make this important change in our Texas politicians.

In 2006, Dallas voted against Governor Perry, and also voted OUT 100% of the Rethugliecon judges. We're even stronger now, and we'll vote against the idiot Cornyn.

Go Texas Democrats!

Cornyn has done absolutely nothing, for anyone. Seriously, we have had some extremely lame Republicans in our time here in Texas, but this guy has set the standard of preformance in office so low that anybody still able to wipe themselves could do better, except maybe our Governor, Rick Perry.

The GOP's policy has long been to keep the Generals happy and screw the common soldier. Its about time somene say it like it is.

Cornyn is gonna go down faster than the Macaca Senator. Rick Santorium, George Allen and counting.

Next up are the politicians on the Supreme Court. Its about time that they are impeached. Using the bench to further the political ambitions of Republicans is unconstitutional and unethical.

We will begin spring cleaning this November.

Go Rick!
I also hope that Noriega points out that as a chickenhawk, it was academic to Cornyn (and therefore he didn't much care) whether his decision to be one of only 9 senators to vote against the torture ban was going to put American soldiers at greater risk of being tortured, but that such things are NOT academic to Noriega.
