Jon Richards is an author, journalist, actor, and cartoonist. His political cartoons are seen regularly in the Albuquerque Journal/Santa Fe. In the '90s he and author and former NSC staffer Roger Morris collaborated on a column/cartoon package called LINES DRAWN. His movie reviews appear weekly in the Santa Fe New Mexican. Novels include Santa Fe, The Whitmarsh Chronicles, and Nick & Jake, an epistolary comic novel written with his brother Tad which will shortly be released in an online audio version starring Alan Arkin, Tom Conti, and Ali MacGraw. He collaborated with Alan Arkin to illustrate the actor’s children’s book Cosmo (Azro Press, 2005). He has done a lot of theater, and has worked in film dubbing as writer, actor, director, and editor in New York and Paris on such films as Elvira Madigan and Z, and has subtitled the films of such directors as Eric Rohmer, Costa-Gavras, Jacques Rivette, Barbet Shroeder, and Jean Eustache. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife Claudia Jessup, a successful novelist under the name Meredith Rich. His daughters India and Alex Richards are writers – Alex published her first novel, Back Talk, in July 2007.
Dick Cheney may no longer have the vice-bully pulpit, but it's good to know that he hasn't lost the knack of being a bully. Rule number one: blame someone else.
In a triumph of tortuous logic, the defenders of "enhanced interrogation techniques" justify their illegal practices by claiming that this stuff works. The jury is still out on that one. But isn't it the wrong question?
