Dennis Hopper helped define a generation, and probably nobody was more surprised than he was. And speaking of things that are hard to believe, last year marked the 40th anniversary of his defining movie, Easy Rider. Hopper died Saturday at 74.
Had this from a friend:
Last summer, on a late Sunday evening Southwest flight from LAX to ABQ, we flew with Dennis Hopper and 4 or 5 other recognizable film actors. Hopper, very small, was the best-dressed, the calmest, and the most quietly accessible. (Julia Roberts’ brother, Eric, in contrast was sweaty, twitchy and inconvenienced by what seemed like a lot of carry on luggage.) Hopper stood in the SW seating line by himself, but without that “don’t look at me” posture – just one of the passengers without an assigned seat, leaving home after a quiet weekend ready to start his work week in New Mexico.
He looked healthy and more like a mid-level company guy than a motorcycle menace.
Thanks for the memory.
