War on Christmas

What's Your Reaction:

Some things, like doing good works over the holidays, are really beyond the pale. Somebody's got to stand up for the true meaning of Christmas.

War on Christmas.

Does that mean standing up against the bloated consumer-driven monstrosity that begins just after Halloween and includes a never-ending array of advertisements for items that we don't need?

Does it include staying away from malls and stores opening their doors long before first light on the day after Thanksgiving? Does it include refusing to demand expensive, trendy gifts from friends and family?

Count me in. This Christian is happy to join that war on Christmas.

This year, I will send small gifts to family and close friends. Small gifts that include some thought on what that person might actually want or need. And I'll follow that up with a donation to the local food bank and Toys for Tots. I'll sing hymns with the choir and do my best to be a better person than my rather grumpy and irritable nature usually makes me.

And I'll keep doing it until the bloated, all-consuming monster that Christmas has become is defeated.

Take that, Christmas!

First of All, In the mid 1960's NOTHING was open on Christmas Day where I lived.
Arlo Guthrie had it right a long long time ago.
