The British company GW Pharmaceutical is asking for European approval of Savitex, their "cannabinoid medication," a derivative form of marijuana that enables symptom relief for various medical conditions -- without incurring any "unacceptable side effects," i.e., getting high. Savitex, which comes in the form of a spray, has been available in Canada since 2005. Savitex users report the following contrasts between the two drugs.

Pot Side Effect: Listening to the Grateful Dead. Savitex Side Effect: Listening to Coast FM Easy Listening.

Pot Side Effect: Spending money on bongs. Savitex Side Effect: Discovering that by stringing together old bongs with fishing line, you can construct lovely backyard wind chimes.

Pot Side Effect: Spending money on rolling papers. Savitex Side Effect: Discovering that by folding old rolling papers just so, you can create lovely origami.

Pot Side Effect: You think guys from Jackass are "cool." Savitex Side Effect: You think, "If one of those guys gets hurt, it will serve him right!"

Pot Side Effect: Blowing smoke up your dog's nose. Savitex Side Effect: "Blowing money" on apartment that you do not share with seven other pot heads.

Pot Side Effect: The munchies. Savitex Side Effect: Insatiable desire to keep in touch with your parents.

Pot Side Effect: Seeing Bob Saget on the street, you yell out, "I used to s*ck d^ck for coke!" Savitex Side Effect: You become a big fan of Full House.

Pot Side Effect: Eating at White Castle. Savitex Side Effect: Drinking white zinfandel.

Pot Side Effect: When cop pulls you over, you think, "oh, f@*k, what did I do? I hate cops!!!" Savitex Side Effect: Same.

Savitex Side Effect:
After three days on Savitex, you turn your house upside down looking for hash under the sofa cushions, magic mushrooms in the back of the fridge, or peyote inside the knapsack you wore when you hiked across the North Plains to take part in an ancient Comanche Ghost Dance Ceremony. Lastly, decide to smoke your new, eco-friendly, %100 hemp khakis, but that only gives you a headache. All is solved when you dump Savitex down the toilet, go to a medical marijuana clinic, and get a prescription for something with good ol' "unacceptable side effects."

Grassley opposes legalization or decriminalization of drugs and believes that it should be decided by senators on the committee and not just a panel of unelected government bureaucrats, a spokeswoman for the senator said.

Grassley, today, noted that the amendment would have included the issue of medical marijuana.

“The commission is an arm of congress because congress doesn’t have time to review some of these laws and the point is for them to do what we tell them to do,” Grassley said. “One of the things I was anticipating telling them not to do is to recommend or study the legalization of drugs.”

Medical Marijuana Hearing Wraps Up In Iowa

The last of four hearings took place inside a ballroom within Harrah's Casino in Council Bluffs. The board now must issue its recommendation to the Legislature.

Terry Mitchell supports the use of medical marijuana. He suffers from a degenerative disc disease causing him to slouch and use a cane to get around.

"I can't stand straight up," Mitchell said. "With smoking cannabis, I can get just as close as I can get."

Without the drug, Mitchell said his ability deteriorates.

"By the time two weeks rolls around, I look like a gorilla. I'm dragging my knuckles on the ground and my knees are buckled, and it even hurts to try and straighten up."

pharmaceuticals will never stop trying to patent marijuana type substances. They cant make money off of a weed that will grow almost anywhere, which is why they will lobby unto their death beds to keep it illegal.
