MIAMI FOOTBALL SCANDAL

On Wednesday, I caught up with the Gordon Monson Show on 1280 The Zone in Salt Lake to discuss my NFL Power Rankings and the Miami football debacle.

I talked about why I rated New Orleans so high at No. 3, with first round running back and former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram being the culprit. The Falcons could very well be best in the NFC South, but with new center Olin Kreutz and a more balanced offensive attack, look for the Saints to re-establish themselves as an elite force.

I also considered some potential sleepers, notably St. Louis, Houston and Tampa Bay. The Bucs, with budding superstar Josh Freeman under center and Mike Williams on the perimeter, could be prime for a playoff push in just Freeman's third season as a pro.

In regards to a Mr. Nevin Shapiro, I called the guy a flatout "loser." Shapiro is a disgrace to collegiate athletics and a perfect example why, despite trying awfully hard, the NCAA will never fully be able to legislate on campuses the way it wants. Look for the Hurricanes to have the hammer laid down very hard in terms of a severe loss of scholarships and postseason ban, but not the "death penalty" which SMU so infamously received in the late 1980s. Taking out such a premier ACC power is simply not a realistic option in this day and age.
