Steamy Polo

Off we went to see the polo again, this time in Windsor Great Park for Cartier International Polo. The park is huge area of trees and greenery that was originally a kind of living larder for the Kings of England -- they went there to hunt deer for the table.

We were guests of Audi, in the ChinaWhite tent -- ChinaWhite being a fairly achingly hip nightclub in the West End of London. It was huge, boiling hot (yesterday was one of the hottest days of a dismal grey summer) and packed to the rafters with hilarious girls and their stripey-shirted beaus.

Fashion was not high, more low -- with acres of bronzed (either spray gun or real) flesh on display. Erogenous zone of the moment was the lower back -- as it is on the streets -- only these ladies were a touch too classy for the lower spine tattoo. And the upper back was there too, all the way up to the neck.

One cheesecloth version of the maxi skirt/no back trend seemed to indicate that the wearer had no knickers on either. Although she might have been sporting an invisible thong. There is such a fine line between pretty and tarty.

There were plenty of mini minis going about too -- puffball or textured and layered -- with legs perched on perilously high heels. Jewel colours looked very now, purple, emerald, sapphire. The tranny shoe fashion totters on, and girls were sinking into the dust with brave smiles on their faces.

The British Blonde was out in force -- her long hair straightened to within an inch of its life. This long-standing style shows no signs of abating, however much the celebrity hairdressers scream that 'curls are back'.

Busts were less evident -- although with halter necks being popular, there were a few unsupported by underwear that should perhaps have looked at themselves sideways in the mirror before venturing forth.

Boys in white jeans and striped shirts, either at social universities like Exeter or Leeds, or working in the City, their hair pushed about into fashionably wayward spikes. The Prince of Wales looked cool in a white suit and sunglasses. Cowboy hats were much in evidence as well to keep the sun off while we sat in the completely exposed stands to watch the game.

Suddenly it was 6pm, and a kind of hip Tea Dance erupted in the tent, with (apparently although I didn't see him) celebrated pop producer and DJ Mark Ronson on the decks. The sound was pin sharp, and the music very dancable. We ordered more ice to suck to keep us cool, and kept on dancing. Huge fun. Highly visual. Boiling hot.
