Ann Coulter Starts Early with Racist Slurs Against Obama

Watching Countdown with Keith Olbermann yesterday on MSNBC (the only hour of basic cable where one might hear something relevant) I learned that Ann Coulter has already begun implementing the far Right's strategy of smearing Barack Obama. Coulter's job is to inject into the Republican echo chamber racist words that would be unacceptable anywhere else. We are drearily familiar with her lies, false accusations, exaggerations, innuendo, and racist attacks while pretending to be "funny." Her bimbo routine for some reason lets her get away with it. Fox News puts her on and then people react to her outlandishness and then repeat it until it seeps into the mainstream (where the Far Right wants it).

With Coulter it is best to look NOT at what she says -- but who she is.

Coulter has given away the far Right's anti-Obama strategy:

1). "You're electing a black guy and he only cares about African Americans"; and

2). "He has a middle name that sounds like a 'terrorist' therefore he's 'soft' on terror and national defense." (John McCain will love this one because it dovetails perfectly with his strategy). It's coming into focus. The far Right wants the Obama campaign to waste a lot of time and energy answering meaningless slurs aimed at driving home these two racist lies.

Well, that might have worked in 2002 or 2003 or 2004 or 2005, but it's not going to work in 2008. We must meet every racist slur and smear thrown Obama's way head on, in real time, so his campaign can focus on more important things and before it can infect the mainstream corporate media.

NBC television anchor, Brian Williams, already injected into one of the debates an insane spam email that was circulating and threw all of the false charges in Obama's face on national television. Jon Stewart of The Daily Show was the only one in the entire TV media that called Williams on this terrible tactic pointing out that citing "something we saw on the Internet" is about as valid as citing something one reads scrawled on the bathroom wall of a gas station. Everyone knows that except apparently Brian Williams.

We will force John McCain to openly denounce on TV each one of Ann Coulter and Company's racist slurs directed at Obama over and over again. We'll reflect right back in their eyes the glare of the klieg lights and expose them as the racists they are. This time we're not going to let them get away with it.

Please Note: The author says "Jon Stewart was the only one to call Brian Williams on this tactic."

Jon Stewart: My Hero. The brightest man on television.
Jon Stewart and the Daily Show is not the best thing on television.

It is the best thing THAT HAS EVER BEEN ON TELEVISION!!!

Could someone please swiftboat Anny? Find something out about Ann that will make Ann unacceptable to the right. Perhaps a DNA sample.

This is a video of Obama being interview by the SF newspaper board. This interview put to rest my worries about Obama's highfalutin but apparently empty rhetoric.

One time I wrote about Coulter and a bunch of chivalrous men came to her defense via email like a damsel or something -- it's nice to see chivalry still exists in America.

I will not be quoting Ann Coulter no matter what she says because that's part of the strategy: get people talking about the latest racist slur she produces and then it gets disseminated. Forget it!

I don't see how Obama could even answer that question about the internet bullshit story. This is goading by Williams and NBC. It required a great deal of strength to not fall into this trap. But he did! He should have stepped back and looked a Williams in the eye and asked him if Brian's side mouthed smirk he's always wearing is a sign of insecurity, or is he hiding a (white) superority complex?

You don't print what she said, so we have only your word for it. Please provide links or exact quotes.

Nice try! But this article is obviously designed to cast doubts about Obama and scare people into not voting for him. Kind of like how Billy Shaheen was "helping" by giving everyone a heads up about Obama's past drug use. Give me a break! The attacks on Clinton are going to be 10 times is worse and everyone knows it. As Obama says, he might be skinny but he's tough.

Boy are you paranoid. Is anybody still afraid of Ann Coulter? Do you actually believe the author of the article is trying to get people to be afraid to support Obama?

Truth be told, Obama's policies -- like Hillary's -- are very left wing and involve increased taxes and increased regulation (things that will hurt the economy and result in everyone getting poorer). Give Obama the nomination to kill the Clinton dynasty and its policies of corruption and self-interest, but then vote Republican to keep America great and money in your pocket.

. . .and "increased regulation" is a bad thing?
Know anything about the S&L scandal of the late 1980s early 1990s that cost the taxpayers $120-billion? Know anything about the subprime mortgage mess today?

Know anything about the TWO BUSHES who were both on their way out the door when the
de-regulated rapists in the banking industry got away with their plunder?

Know anything at all?

Yeah, keep America great and money in your pocket. Look around. America is in ruins - the whole f**ing country is BROKE.

How has the last 8 years been working out for you with the Republican economy?

The real miracle will be surviving the Bush/Republican administration with any hope at all of recovering. This group has led us into an economic catastrophe that will take years to sort out....if we ever do sort it out.

I could literally give $500 to a group of seven-year-olds and know that they would handle the money more resposibly than the Republicans have since 1990.

This may not be a debate that you should be so eager to engage in my Republican friend.

There's no "truth being told" in your comment. If by chance you're not spinning, and are just badly misinformed, check out Obama's website and learn the truth.

How ugly is this going to get? How much blatant racism remains in America?

I am afraid we are going to find out that there is a whole lot more racism remaining than many people believe.

After all America was built on racism, and segregation was enforced with state sponsored terrorism well within my lifetime.

But I think Obabma will be quite capable of daling with it. And turning the slurs and insults to his advantage.

I hope. I pray. But how disappointing has America been these last years?

Barack's issue is his race and Hillary's issue is her sex. Each of those issues will turn off a certain class of people. Democrats need to understand that ugliness will be part of the gop ranting this fall no matter whether it's Obama or Clinton...obnoxious and offensive are the gop's middle names (their acronym should be goop instead of gop).

Barak's issue is not his race. He's done everything possible to keep his race out of it. And when others interject it, he says as little as necessary to dispose of the nonsense and move on.

Oh right, the Obama campaign never talks about race. What election have you been following?

Sorry, he continually brings up the issue of race whenever he is in front of the racial crowd. Your comment doesn't wash.

15 short years ago.....

.....the first slur of the kind she is famous for would have gotten her fired and ostracized from the media business!

Now, she has been doing this for 10+ years and only seems to get more popular and more airtime.

WTF? has become of us?

Jimmy the Greek.....made one comment and we never heard from him again!

It was wrong to fire Jimmy the Greek and Al Campanis. Their remarks showed a lot of ignorance but no hatred. And the right wing used them as foils for one of the major planks in the reactionary right wing agenda, the campaign against political correctness. After a decade or two of that indoctrination, things have now swung so far in the opposite direction that not only is ignorance like Jimmy the Greek 's or Al Campanis' excused, but truly hateful poison like Rush Limbaugh's and Ann Coulter's is considered virtuous! We share some of the blame for not insisting that our desire for compassionate racial sensitivity itself be implemented with compassion. But what these people have done in response is truly disgusting and reprehensible.

Can we please keep anything about Ann Coulter out of Huffington. She isn't worth reporting on.

I second that. Her career survives because she plays on the prejudices of the right by saying the things they think but don't dare say, and on the sensitivities of the left by shocking them into paying attention to her. She's a manipulative parasite on the nation's psyche, and I, for one, never want to hear or read another word about her.

A. Coulter is a smearer for the ultra-rightwing republican John M. Olin Foundation based on chemical and munitions business.

They use paid-smearers as attack-dogs to sensationalize their pathological causes, cast doubt on the opposition and get that "he-man" arousal of "playing dirty". Cum to think of it, Anne is a pretty DIRTY PLAYGROUND.
