Fred Thompson finally threw his hat into the ring of Republican presidential candidates.
In the Senate he was known for being a lazy legislator but an energetic pursuer of poon.
He is a one-dimensional actor with a tiny palette. But he is the best right-wing Hollywood candidate in his price range.
Ever since Ronald Reagan lowered the bar of American politics to enable mediocre thespians to run for high office we have suffered our share of Republican cardboard.
Sonny Bono became a Congressional representative. Arnold Schwarzenegger became Governor of California. And even the talentless drip who played "Gopher" on The Loveboat held a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from Iowa.
Now Fred Thompson wants to get into the act. His "qualifications" amount to little more than being able to emote on demand and read a mean teleprompter. He's not an "empty suit," but a desiccated, mummified version of 1950s Man. John Wayne meets Charlton Heston.
His ideas about blockading Iran while continuing to occupy Iraq make him the scariest Republican presidential aspirant to come out of the woodwork since the day Rudy Giuliani announced his candidacy.

Freddie is a joke, like all the rest of the "WHITE MEN'S CLUB", republican candidates for president. Big money will pour millions into their campaigns (to no avail this time) because the rich are desperate to maintain power in the US Government (that is what made them rich). But I will give them credit, they are also pouring untold millions to the Democratic candidates, in the hopes they can be bought also (become Republican-lite). I truly recommend this sad system will not end until we have federal funding ONLY for all Federal elected positions, no use of personal wealth, or any contributions for anyone else. Make or break on what you get, then America will finally have elected officials who want to serve the public, not their rich contributors.
And a campaign that is only a few weeks long, or at most a couple of months!
Great point LeftRight. This forever campaigning is ridiculous (not to mention annoying) and a huge waste of money that certainly could be put to better use, like helping the poor! Think of the all the people that make money from campaigns. The world would be much better off if they used their talents to help people in need.

I have no doubt that Fred Thompson is "The" candidate that the Right Wing,King_Makers want and have planned extensively,to put in the White House as the next President.

The Elitist Supremist South isn't gonna give up on 2008 Yet, and Don't forget Dr. Richard Land, of the Southern Baptist Convention, covert agent for talking the easily fooled Christian Right into filling the offering plates since the Reagan/Bush Presidency, helping George Bush win Governorship in Texas, and then of course on into the White House.
Yeah, and Bill Frist diagnosed Terry Schivo over the TV as well and we saw how that worked out. Perhaps his endorsement is a good thing?

The Reagan tax cuts certainly revived the deficit and made it a healthy, growing part of the economy until that awful Clinton balanced the budget. Just in time, W. came along to save it.
Gorbachev brought us the end of the Soviet Union, not Reagan.
Conservatives are so awful at governing that they have had to become very good at revisionist history.
Stevelagain: Very successful? How about the most corrupt administration in history? At least 110 Reagan administration were either, indicted, convicted or resigned under a cloud and that included the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Interior as I recall. How about a national debt greater than all the other presidents combined? Iran Contra - illegal arms sales to our enemy? How about a staff that allowed him to serve while he was in the early stages of Alhzheimer's? You say it's success. I say it just sucks.
As the years go on, yes, even the university professors who rate presidents are gritting their teeth and having to admit Reagan was a successful and great president.
Besides, a thespian has just as much right to run for president as does a lawyer. Somebody show me in the constitution were you have to be a lawyer to be president?

Reagan gutted the middle class, cut social programs, and lied to the American public. Is it a conincidence that gang violence, coke, and the decent of the public education system all began during his presidency?
