Another Desperate Addict: "Bush Asks Saudi King to Open Oil Spigots"

lohandrinky01.jpgThe president who said "America is addicted to oil" now begs the Saudis for another fix. Like some binge-drinking, pill-popping starlet -- is there any other kind? -- the president is prostrate before his top foreign "dealer," begging for more, even at the risk of public humiliation:

The Saudi oil minister, however, waited only a short time before announcing that oil prices would remain tied to market forces -- a direct slap at Bush.

Wow! When even your dealer won't sell you more, you have got a real problem.

Just one hour later, though, "President Bush made a private visit to Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah to again ask him to open the spigots."

That is like being turned down by your dealer and then desperately appealing directly to Pablo Escobar.

Anyone for rehab or, say, plug in hybrids?

Translation: Not only is Bush utterly clueless about his country's strategic situation with respect to Saudia Arabia, but he did the one thing that could make it worse by throwing away what little bargaining power he might have had.

Oil *is* an addiction and Saudia Arabia *is* a dealer. Dealers of addictive substances are not known for their sentimentality.

My goodness, I hope Shrub's hand wasn't sweaty. There's nothing that a Saudi hates worse than holding hands with a damp-handed-oil-beggin' foreigner.

The premise of this article is simple pandering to the "hate everything about Pres.Bush" crowd.

The howls go up constantly that Pres.Bush does not practice diplomacy...then the pitiful howls go up when he engages in diplomacy.

Would it make you happier if he had threatened to "bomb the hell" out of the Saudis if they didn't lower the price of oil?...I think not.

The threat of nuclear war, peak oil, climate change, and the collapse of the U.S. dollar are the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." But Bush is worried only about the death grip on Iraq. There will be no democracy there any time soon, nor a departure of U.S. combat troops.

Bush looks like a supplicant before the King. "I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy!" The King, "You'll have to borrow more from China and Asia!"

Saudi Arabia is the chief jewel. China is selling weapons to the Saudis and buying weapons. Bush is a trick dude and the King knows this.

The "windshield cowboy" will beg for a break in prices before the election and promise to remain indefinitely in Iraq forever. FDR's promises were voided by Truman, and the King knows this, too.

Not to be deterred, President Bush caught the King off-gaurd with the sad-pouty-lip technique.

Oil is not like pot. you just can't go out and grow some. The Saudis don't increase production because they can't. They just won't admit it.

Was this "anything for another fix" open-legged prostration the real reason for his visit to the Middle East - Oh yes, with the pretence of finding a peaceful solution to the Israel-Palestinian problem just a smokescreen?

Nancy Pelosi promised lower gasoline prices if people voted Democrat in 2006.

From her website....

"Democrats have a plan to lower gas prices, taking America in a new direction that works for everyone, not just the few. Our plan would empower the Federal Trade Commission to crack down on price gouging to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices, increase production of alternative fuels, and rescind the billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies, tax breaks, and royalty relief given to big oil and gas companies."

Instead of begging the Saudis for more oil, and making us more indebted to them, this president shouldinvest heavily in alternative sources of energy: solar, wind, biofuels, etc. etc.

Maybe Bush is "strung out" and confused. That would tend to explain alot of his erratic and destructive behaviors!!

Hard to say who the 'Dealer' is here. Saudi Arabia has oil and the "Military Industrial Complex' has the greatest weapons of war.
The house of Saud gets 'Shock and Awe' weaponry and the President gets the honor of borrowing more from foreign banks to fund the scam that saves America from Osama Bin Laden (The one that can run but cannot hide).
If you play the game keep an eye on the dealer(s).

He went begging on bended knee but once the cameras from US media started rolling he talked tough about the hard choices middle east leaders had to make as if he'd been giving them an ultimatum.

The world doesn't quake in fear of us, they are disgusted and in a position, collectively, to tighten the vise around our family jewels in the conomic sense...economic death by a thousand paper cuts, all hinging on whether they respect us.

Profligate spending, economic and diplomatic disaster and loss off face is the legacy of George W. Bush.

Haven't we had enough of this creep? It is too little too late from him and now he wants to ignore NIE and bomb Iran.

He should be incarcerated. I chuckle at the idea of those who voted for him paying a higher tax rate to clean up his mess, but it would never happen. The idea of it makes me smile inside, but the reality makes me vomit a little in my mouth.

I'd love to have a plug-in electric vehicle! I wouldn't even mind too much if it wouldn't get up to the barn, as long as I can still find gas to power my 4-wheel drive SUV (which I use to haul feed, livestock and equipment up the hill to our barn as well as to transport our many, many pets to the vet). I'd use the plug-in for ordinary transportation, and reserve the old SUV for farm use.

I'd prefer a plug-in electric car to a "weird" alternative fuel car, since I live in the country and there has been no rush to provide our local gas stations with anything other than plain old gasoline.

City folks might have the opposite point of view, though - how many apartment-dwellers have outdoor plugs available for their use?

Perhaps we could have both plug-in and alternative fuel vehicles. We have both trucks and sports cars, and they sell differently in different areas of the country. Different types of cars would probably sell differently, too, depending on what their main use would be.
