McCain Thinks Palin Knows More About Energy Than Anyone Else in the United States

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

People have been debunking and mocking the ridiculous idea that Sarah Palin is an energy expert for about a week now. Via America Blog we learn that John McCain has just put his world famous judgment on display by claiming that Palin knows more about energy than anyone else in the United States.

Crooks and Liars has downloadable video and a transcript.

Q: You say you're sure she has experience, but again I'm just asking for an example. What experience does she have in the field of national experience.

McCain: Energy. She knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America. She represe-- is a governor of the state that 20% of America's energy supply comes from there. And you all know that energy is a critical and vital national security issue.

Adam Siegel calls this what it is, beyond insulting. Empty Wheel points out that the 20% statistic is wrong and breaks down the danger of equating political success in an energy producing state with energy expertise (think Texas). A few days ago Brad Johnson listed some of the others making the false Sarah Palin as energy expert lie. This shows quite clearly how this coordinated GOP talking point has expanded (first she knew more about energy than anybody in DC, now it is anybody in the United States), and how it has spread (first GOP Reps and Governors, then NBC and the Weekly Standard).

The real danger here is not that John McCain is willing to say anything to win: we know that is true. What we should be concerned about is the very real possibility that John McCain actually believes Sarah Palin knows more about energy than anybody else in the United States. Perhaps Obama was on to something in Denver when he said it's not that McCain doesn't care... he just doesn't know. Sadly, it is becoming increasingly obvious that he doesn't care or know a whole lot about any of the issues.

Update: Charlie Gibson (kind of) calls Palin out on this: "I know. I'm just saying that national security is a whole lot more than energy."

McCain knows little about Palin on any level, and less about her husband or his current and her previous Alaska Independence Party affiliations. Please read entire article from link.

Anchorage Daily News 9/12/08
Palin had kind words for Alaskan Independence Party
Here is the text of the welcoming speech she offered by video to the group for its convention earlier this year. It is on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI.
NOTE: TODD PALIN HAS BEEN AIP MEMBER FOR 7 YEARS
Its Web site, www.akip.org, ..Alaskan Independence Party's goal is.. Become a separate and Independent Nation.
..excerpts from speech given October last year in Chattanooga, Tenn., by Alaskan Independence Party vice-chairman addressing gathering that Clark refers to elsewhere in his speech as a "secessionist conference."
Our current governor.. the one we were hoping would get elected, Sarah Palin, did get elected.
..there was a lot of talk about her moving up (in political office). ..But you get along to go along -- she (Palin) eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and -- ...You should infiltrate (another party) -- -- I don't think they even care which party it is. And you get a few people on a city council or a county board you can have some effect . . . You have to be at the table in the existing political realm --

Am I the only one who feels like the "real" McCain is being held captive by the GOP in some dungeon and has been replaced by a GOP wired robot?

Cause I find it unfathomable that the "real" John McCain could actually mean what he has been saying the last 2 months. I mean, really! I truly believe that the "real" John McCain has more intelligence than that.

If his contention is true, I think a meeting between Ms. Palin and some top energy people is in order. Televised. Let's see exactly what she knows about the United States' energy issues. The entire United States. Not just Alaska. Let's see exactly what she knows about our international energy issues, current policies, possible solutions. Let's see exactly how she, in two short weeks has suddenly become the US's foremost expert on ANYTHING, much less energy. If she does, in fact, know more about energy than anyone else in the US, where all all of her published pieces on this very important topic. Where has she been during the crisis? Why hasn't the Bush Administration enlisted her assistance in producing a more logical energy policy?

If I heard Palin correctly, she said that energy policy is a 'NATIONAL SECURITY' issue.

McCain claims that she is the foremost expert on energy issues.

If this is true that explains the REAL reason for spending 10 Billion borrowed dollars a month in Iraq.

-It is, and always had been, OIL! Nothing to do with WMD, Saddams association with Bin Laden and Sept. 11 or that Iraq is a nation of terrorists coming to kill us because they hate democracy.

This crowd will never get their lies straight.

McCain is such a fraud. The main reason he selected Palin is that she has a vagina. Not that she is the most knowledgeable energy expert or an expert in foreign policy. The guy is such a PHONY.

McCain lies nearly ALL the TIME. He has NO CREDIBILITY. He is like Bush: an incompetent with extremely poor judgment.

I believe that statement will come back to haunt him. Get ready for her to incorrectly answer an energy question. He didn't even vet her ... how does he know what she knows?

He knows just as much as we do and I'm not optimistic.

I think that John McCain is right and Bush proved that point. Being a governor of an oil producing state makes you an energy expert. Just look at the great Bush/Cheney energy plan. Oil companies were really doing bad in the 90's under Clinton because oil was $20/barrel, gas was $1,50/gallon. Now the oil companies are really doing great and making record profits.

To the Maverick and the Energy Expert
a test of loyalty (in appreciation of Gov Palin)

"I've fought corruption, and it didn't matter if the culprits were Democrats or Republicans. They violated their public trust, and they had to be held accountable." And
“What you fight for is the real test.” McCain RNC.

What a brilliant opportunity for the reform duo, McCain and Palin to stand up to the Big Oil and the Denver Minerals Management Services, allegations of corruption.

Perfect timing right before Congress debates for or against more federal offshore oil and natural gas drilling.

Chevron and Shell apparently have been very generous to about 1/3 of the employees of MMS.
MMS is in charge of a critical oil and gas leasing program. Accusations are that MMS is mismanaging the collection of fees from oil companies and writing faulty contracts for drilling on government land and offshore.

Such practices, the inspector general concluded, lead to potential favoritism for certain energy companies as well as taxpayer losses. An examination this year of 718 bid packages turned up changes to 118 that appeared to inappropriately benefit corporations by $4.4 million, at the expense of the government. (Sourced Denver Post)

More than "anyone else in the country"? It would be most interesting to have Gov. Palin share the stage with T. Boone Pickens, discussing energy needs and policy. I think I'll put my money on Mr. Pickens.

Hopefully this will turn out to be a major embarrassment for McCain....the Obama campaign should create an ad to exploit this nonsensical hyperbole.

All of these comments pre-suppose that energy equals oil. All she talks about is more drilling as the answer to our dependence on foreign oil. Oil is a finite resource. Drilling here may help us to be less dependent on other countries, but it doesn't address the environmental aspect. I submit that our energy issue is about more than where our oil is coming from. Oil is a finite resource. There will come a time that we run out of oil. I would suggest that we be developing sustainable energy sources or we will wish we had when the oil is all gone.

McCain has turned out to be such a sad, sad, pathetic, addlepated shadow of a man.
McCain does not know much about the economy
McCain does not know much about energy

I know more about energy than anyone in the United States, and I can prove it in three words:

Diversified.
Energy.
Policy.

Let's invest in energy like we'd invest in stocks - a few eggs in a lot of baskets. Nuclear. Wind. Solar. Wave. Hydro. "Clean" coal. Natural Gas. Oil (including domestic - drill, baby drill!). Whatever else you got.

That way, when inevitable unintended consequences raise their ugly head, all that's required is a moderate, temporary shift in sources, rather than a crisis that takes the entire industry down with it.

Thank you,

(bows)

Thank you.

Remember these three words, they're going to come up in politics eventually: Diversified. Energy. Policy.

It doesn't matter how you critique the lies, they are proving they are decisive and will do whatever it takes to win (which means you would like them to cover your back in either a Barroom brawl or when we are attacked)....

McCain = Bush = 4 more years.....NOBODY believes that McCain is not a GOOD republican...

POW doesn't matter, Maverick is a joke an illusion...

Naomi Klein is on Shock Doctrine on New Orleans, lets get an ad from her.. Bush playing the guitar and eating cake at John McCains birthday party, just like reading the damn book during 9/11...
