New NRA Prez David Keene's Son Is a Convicted Road-Rage Shooter

Posted: 05/02/11 11:07 AM ET

If all goes as expected in Pittsburgh today, American Conservative Union President David Keene will be elected president of the National Rifle Association at the organization's board of directors meeting.

One person who presumably will not be attending the event is Keene's son, David Michael Keene, who according to news reports and trial documents was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for a 2002 road-rage incident in which he fired a handgun from his moving vehicle at another car on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia.

For more on this, let's go to that pro-gun bastion of conservative reporting, WorldNetDaily. In a December 2010 article which focused primarily on a rumored $400,000 embezzlement scandal facing the American Conservative Union, WorldNetDaily reported that:

In addition to his role at ACU, David Keene also serves as 1st vice president of the National Rifle Association and, as such, is in line to become the powerful gun lobby's next president.

That role caused the NRA some anguish when Keene's son, David Michael Keene, was arrested for a road rage incident in which he allegedly fired a gun at another motorist on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The round fired shattered the rear window of the victim's car, lodging into the driver's seat, coming within inches of hitting him, according to police reports.

Remember, guns don't attempt to kill people, the sons of NRA presidents do.

Geesh, if we're playing the guilty by association game, I wonder what Josh thinks of Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns group? How many of their members have been charged and convicted of criminal activity now?

Boy, the Joyce Foundation is really getting their money's worth, aren't they?

It is a matter of personal responsibility, his son did wrong and has been judged for it..  I have had friends/family who engaged in a bit of criminal behavior before.. but it sure doesn't come up on MY background check...

George Morris lost his wife in the Tucson mass shooting, and is addressing the NRA Board.

“I will be your spokesman, as my wife would wish, to be your spokesman, to tell everyone that it wasn’t a gun that killed my wife.”

“I will be your spokesperson in protecting the Second Amendment going forward.”

Survivors of gun violence are speaking out and being heard by the NRA-this is a good thing!

Wow. I did not know that. Honestly, I don't think you can hold David Keene responsible for his ADULT sons' actions. However, I am surprised that given the stigma attached to David Keene he is the new NRA President. Seems to me this gives anti-gun folks lots of "ammunition".

Perhaps Mr. Sugarmann holds the inanimate firearm utilized by Mr. David Keene's son as the responsible actor in the reported criminal act.

WASHINGTON - Gun-control advocate Sarah Brady bought her son a powerful rifle for Christmas in 2000 - and may have skirted Delaware state background-check requirements, the New York Daily News has learned.

Brady reveals in a new memoir that she bought James Brady Jr. a Remington .30-06, complete with scope and safety lock, at a Lewes, Del., gun shop.

"I can't describe how I felt when I picked up that rifle, loaded it into my little car and drove home," she writes. "It seemed so incredibly strange: Sarah Brady, of all people, packing heat."

Brady became a household name as a crusader for stricter gun-control laws after her husband, James, then the White House press secretary, was seriously wounded in a 1981 assassination attempt on then-President Ronald Reagan.

Brady writes in "A Good Fight" that the unnamed gun shop ran federal Brady Law and Delaware state background checks with great fanfare.

The book suggests that she did not have her son checked, as required by Delaware state law.

Surprising? Sadly, not at all. The NRA is tied to bad actors seemingly everywhere, whether we are talking about insurrectionist militia groups in Alaska, gun dealers who have violated federal law hundreds of times, or "law-abiding citizens" who exercise their "Shoot First" constitutional by trying to kill people on our nation's roads.

Actually this has nothing to do with "bad actors". The NRA person in this story didn't shoot anyone. His son did.

So unless you are all about guilt by association, this doesn't effect the NRA at all.

Ohio--Of course you realize the BC/VPC/CSGV/LCAV/MAIG troika is all about guilt by association--one of guffie's favorite memes is blaming law abiding gun owners for the criminal acts of violent felons

You keep claiming that 'Grits' while ignoring all the 'bad actors' involved w/ gun control.

No surprise though coming from one who really doesn't want any communication.

In NRA world I'm guessing this was a positive event.
The boy was upset and didn't involve the federal gov't just took matters into his own hands. Didn't even kill the guy so what's the harm?

In January of 2000, one of the organizers of the Washington D.C. chapter shot and paralyzed a man whom she wrongly believed had killed her son. When police searched her home, they found three handguns and a Tec-9 "assault weapon." She received a life sentence on nine charges, including illegal possession of a firearm (guns are, for all intents and purposes, illegal to own in D.C.).

The son of the future NRA president broke the law while using a gun and is being punished for it. That's exactly the way it should work. Other than being an attempted cheap shot at the NRA, what is the problem? People who break the law with guns (or anything else) should be punished. The vast majority of gun owners who are law-abiding should be left alone.

However Josh Sugarmann of the VPC and 'GritsJr" of the CSGV believe anyone even remotely associated w/ the NRA or 2nd Amendment activism are 'traitors' and 'insurrectionists'.
