The All YouTube Review Presents Hamlet 2

The latest entry into this summer's competition for the most offensive movie is Hamlet 2, a comedy starring Steve Coogan, the Mancunian comic perhaps best known for his character Alan Partridge on English television. The movie is exceedingly funny, both stupid and smart at once and derivative in the best way possible. Rather than use words which are like so over, I'll let Youtube do the talking.

Hamlet 2 is:

Part Waiting for Guffman

Especially this part:

with some classroom transformation a la Only the Strong

add some singing Jesus

A few rape jokes:

And of course, Bill and Ted's:

And voila!

If you want to see another Shakespearean inspired comedy that's also smart, exceedingly funny but never stupid, go get Never Say Macbeth when it comes out on DVD August 26th. (www.neversaymacbeth.com) It's a comedy about how you're not supposed to say Macbeth in a theater. A science teacher who doesn't know this says it and he unleashes ghosts and chaos upon a troupe of actors. It's what would happen if Hamlet 2 met Beetlejuice. Like Hamlet 2, it's got some great music. The trailer has a rockin' punk song on it.

And then there's Summer Heights High's Mr G and his production of "Annabelle Dickson: The Musical" but then changed to "Mr G the Musical,' when the parents of Annabelle protest a show about their daughter who recently OD'd and died. The hit single 'Naughty Girl' came from this fantastic show (coming soon to HBO).
From Wikipedia:
Mr G's musical begins to fall apart just 10 days before opening night. First, Annabelle Dickson's parents refuse to have the musical focusing on their daughter. Instead, Mr G renames it "Mr G: The Musical" and tells his own story, with later reference to a girl who doesn't take his advice, and dies of an overdose in a similar manner to Annabelle. However, his plans continue to fall apart when the school can't afford his arena seating; the basketball hoops in the gymnasium continue to remain even after Mr G requested their removal; his leading actor quits, and is replaced by Toby - the child with Downs Syndrome; and then Mr G's dog, Celine, is hit and killed by a car.

It goes on and on!
