Some may think it strange that I have such an interest in the election, being that I was born, raised and still live in England. Which by the way, has its fair share of problems when it comes to politics. I have to say so far I've seen that England shares a lot of America's problems as well as its advantages and vice versa. America is a very powerful country and affects the whole world around it with the decisions made.

My point is, whoever has any ounce of care for the world as a whole, should and most probably does care very much about whom is to be elected president of the United States.

Of course I have my opinion of who should be given this most powerful position. But I'm not here to preach to you about who is right or wrong, I think that is pretty clear .

If your actions are negative and hurt people in anyway, such as creating more deaths and more tears than usual, then clearly you're doing something wrong. If what you do brings happiness, strength and harmony to those around you, then clearly you're doing something right . This is how i personally judge success.

Like I said, I have my opinion on who the next president should be. However, the whole point of my speaking out is to encourage those that can vote to actually do it. What you decide is what you decide. There are millions upon millions of people who will be hugely affected by this election and cannot vote because of age or nationality. So please, if you have a say, be grateful that you do and use it .

On to the reason I wrote the song, "Governmentalist." I was in England getting ready to play at a gig held by the princes of England to honor the brave men that had been sent off to war and fought for their country. In an interview before the show I had expressed my disappointment in the way these young men are being treated when they come home. The majority of these men and alot of the time boys are sent to the NHS to get treatment for there wounds. I believe that being that they put their lives at risk to protect the safety of their country, shouldn't they get special care when they come home with half a leg or only one eye left if that?

In the past the military had their own special hospitals where they could recuperate as a group , under the present administration many of these hospitals have been closed due to cuts in the government ' s expenditure.

Thank God England has the NHS. In the country I live in, if you get sick you can get some kind of help, it may not be top of the range and yes there is a hell of a waiting list, but at least it exists . For this I am more than happy to pay tax. I'm not happy to pay tax to kill thousands of young boys to supply a fight for the politicians that run the whole thing from a safe warm office. Who I'm sure choose not to think too deeply about the blood shed they have created , the lives they have destroyed and the hearts they are breaking . In America if you don't have money and you get sick, it's a simple thing, you either die or go bankrupt .

So let me get this straight, there is enough free cash to spend literally trillions on a war, which is unnecessary and unwanted by the majority, but not enough to create something similar to the NHS so the people that are dying on the streets for example... ex-war veterans, can then have some kind of health care so that they don't have to lose anything more than they already have lost. After expressing my views on the matter, I had heard the head of the ministry of defense was offended, I do not wish to offend but I do wish to exercise my freedom of speech, so I offered him my phone number so maybe he could shed some light on the issue for me, because trust me I would love to be wrong. Of course I never heard from him. The offer is still open. Whether I'm right or wrong, this whole situation is what inspired the lyrics in the song .

Now I'm not directing this at one person in particular, let me make it clear that the problem doesn't just exist in America and England, there are power hungry maniacs in control all over the globe. Frightening, but very definitely true. So when someone with good morals, and a want to spread peace comes though, please don't ignore that person. It is not a weakness, it is a strength many of us don't have.

"Governmentalist" is highlighting how the people in power are acting and that their actions affect the innocent completely and totally everyday.

The money that is paid in taxes is there to be used at their discretion to protect the country and make it the best, most peaceful nation it can possibly be. Not for sending the young people off to fight and die in a war created to generate more money for a country that most definitely has enough.

So many innocent die for no good reason at all. The soldiers feel they are protecting their loved ones at home and the safety of their country, which is what many are told and many believe, the truth is the only thing they are protecting is the republican ' s interests ....meaning their wallets. To me this is the saddest reality I have come across in my 21 years of being here, there is no need for this. Those that can, please help this change.

Have a say! Listen to all information that is given to you and with that, make your decision based on what you believe is right. Not on what you're told to believe. You each individually have a mind and a mouth that finally you have a right to use. This vote is your only weapon, so go ahead and use it.

Some may think it strange that I have such an interest in the election, being that I was born, raised and still live in England. Which by the way, has its fair share of problems when it comes to polit...

Right on, girlfriend! Very good posting.

(part 1) - The Obama-McCain rivalry has indeed felt the failed policies of George W. and this automatically puts McCain-conservatives at a campaign upset; and causes them to reach across the aisle (slightly) in favor of liberals. That‘s how loud the Leftist-cry rings and this chant is attractive to many traditional Rightists this go-around, to equal an influx of cross-voters. If not for being able to connect with voters for the critical issues at hand, Obama has been able to use masterfulness directly on the Information Age -- taking advantage of the Internet engine to campaign-fund at historic highs: to fund his, fund the in-deficit and defeated Hillary’s and still have leftovers to move around wherever team-Obama needs venturing. Can the now fiscal-successful campaign translate into a later fiscal-successful cabinet?

(part 2) - The famous underlying agenda for the War on Iraq can be summed up in one word: oil. There’s one word strongly synonymous with America’s current president and his veep: oil. A feeling rhetorically appears on the hands of Bush cabinet members, each time they shake hands with us or anyone: oily. And despite borrowing the ‘Kingdom‘s troops for diabolical causes, W. was never able to chokehold oil spigots inside of Iraq; trillions of delicate dollars and thousands of innocent lives lost, military and civilian alike. World economists like to tease consumers and number-crunch where the hundreds of billions of bail-out dollars could have been dumped into if these transactions were never needed. But the full War on Iraq was genuinely never needed, and the same economists can instead find the ultimate tease in number-crunching the trillions of dollars George W. wasted in that farce alone. Imagine the efforts it could’ve been lodged into, and to the short-to-long-term effects it could’ve impose worldwide courtesy of the U.S., a.k.a. us.

(part 3) - There’s cronies existent everywhere all sides the tiny blue ball, and all persons in power must observe Pacifist measures. But do they? A true Rightist fiscally conserves, and spends only to attack foreign-to-domestic enemies to protect people‘s lives, warring only on these measures. But we now believe they use militaries to boost the name of world corporatocracy, with a partiality to heavy investors and an upper-bracket’s benefit. A 90% Bush-sympathetic campaigner is no antithesis to this, and an elected-Obama will have hell cleaning Bush’s messes up: the fiscal liberal in him will need to resuscitate citizens in desperate need and the fiscal conservative in him will need to dwindle mountains of debt the U.S. (Us) owes. My monetary faith in Obama -- despite his so-far successful campaign trail -- is still trying to even up to that of Kucinich’s, Nader’s or most-importantly Paul’s. But there isn’t any doubt his irenic vibes are intact, and is a healthy fulfillment to those needing economic faith and a cronyism barricade.

(part 4) - It’s nice knowing you follow politics -- albeit American -- while on the road and in the air, since many celebrities and musicians barely are active enough to form slight attempts at stances on simple issues. Some even advocate the entire opposite and use media pull for personal gain and strictly that. (Yes, this brainwash-by-action on the tube affects American youth. Sympathists hear you and flocks of sheep need more of you. And you.) I’ve read past mag articles citing your awareness, of not only your genre‘s market-mood but also hip-hop‘s (I’m sure America‘s just as much), and the so-far message conveyed, me speaking as a child of street-America, is you’re quite the eccentric. One can only imagine how you’ll mold these next 5, 10, 15 years; no doubt your vocals will still merit tenacity but may be used to speak out activist-vociferously moreso than market-vocally (many times you infuse both) -- natural of aging and shifting choices. We can only imagine at this time but it’s obvious you’ll only move upwards despite whatever. With that said Joss, bless your career(s), more importantly your soul.

Sure, because if your health care isn't state of the art and immediate, it's not worth having. You're better off just sitting home and waiting to die, as under the current American system. In countries like France and Italy, health care is state of the art and immediate, you don't need to argue with an MBA to get treatment, and it doesn't bankrupt you.
Since it isn't horribly cruel to others, I can see why rightwingers would hate it.

She just illustrates the two major problems with universal health care, the quality of care is dimished and you could be waiting an inordinate amount of time for care. So, if one is very ill and has an ailment which requires immediate treatment you're pretty much screwed. There's a reason why people from Europe come to this country when they need major medical procedures. We can provide the best care.

Hey..both 1099 AND Vandelay..(the architect?...love it)...you are MISSING the point...being...
okay..those of us with company health care...are LUCKY!... and we pay a LOT for it!..but..I was recently diagnosed with Stage II metaplastic carcinoma...I AM getting what I HOPE is great care..and believe I will survive... BUT..if I had NO insurance...I would die...period..end of story....and it would HURT a lot for a long long time...(as I know no morphine dealers)...

What JOSS said..is that...yes..waiting lists SUCK..but..ummmm...No CARE...or waiting list...let's see..

Where would I like my taxes to go? to the woman (or man)...laid off...who loses health insurance...THEN gets the "C" word... my GOD...this IS God's work...helping those in need..and if it's via taxes for medical care...sign me up...

Now..taxes for the abyss in IRAQ...um..not so much...TAXES to pay for no-bid contracts for Haliburton and KKR...yup..you betcha..that ticks me off big time...Taxes to bail out AIG..WITOUT the assurance "they'd" go after their salaries and bonuses and ENSURE prison for economic terrorism...Yup..that bugs me...

I rather connect my recovery with Barak Obama taking the oath of office in january...I should be finished with Chemo by then...and on my way to recovery...just like our country..she's sick..and deserves the best care...that would be Obama/Biden.

Love your work, Joss. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I've had several friends from Europe tell me they should be allowed to vote in our presidential election since the outcome effects them so much.

It's a one party system with two faces. Voting D or R implicates you the mass delusion.

Sure vote for Obama, he's better than McCain.

If the will of the people was actually reflected in this present voting schema you'd see Dr. Ron Paul on the red side and then there would be some reason to leave you house.

Too bad third party votes don't count.

Dig deeper Joss Stone.

Anyone that thinks that it makes no difference which side you vote for must have been in a coma for the last eight years. Can you honestly say that things would be exactly the same if it were President Gore leaving office?
Dig deeper, aslinged. Much MUCH deeper!

I think the overall point would be... different, but the same.

I can drive a Ford for 30 years, then get a Chevy. It'll be different, yet fundamentally the same. Be one dem or repub, there comes a level in politics where "playing" within the industrial/military complex becomes a necessity. Both parties have shaped this to be so over the last 60 years, despite the warnings of wiser, more experienced politicians. This isn't paranoia mind you, but simply the ebb and flow finding it's place in the middle eventually. We all have our "Knight in shining armor" fantasy to be sure. To many in the 90's it was Clinton. But to think it will be found in either of the political machines that have done so much to shape our current reality is just wishful thinking. The best one can hope for is a choice that will do the least damage at this point. I feel that choice is Barak Obama, but would ultimately prefer a broader range of candidates with an equal chance.

Let' s meet back here in 6 months and we'll see if the troops are home.

I'll open it further, in 6 months you show me one substantive change to congressional corruption, corporate hegemonic policy strangleholds or the fraudulent Fed. Reserve.

If you can do that then I'll work for Obama for free for one year.

Till then, keep drinking the kool aid friend and hope they don't steal the vote again.
