Originally from Chicago, Joy Preble earned a degree from Northwestern University. She has since replaced the snow and ice of Chicago for the endless Texas summer. She's married to the guy she met when she slammed him to the floor with an errant serve on their coed volleyball team freshman year at NU, has a son who keeps her laughing, and teaches high school English when she's not writing.

Joy's debut YA, Dreaming Anastasia, combines a contemporary YA storyline with elements of Russian history and folklore -- stories that developed through her crazy maternal grandmother - who was one of twenty children and the least grandmotherly of grandmothers a girl could ever hope for.

Paying the Debut Dues Or How I Got a Silver Sharpie

My friends who don't write -- who aren't debut authors and thus crazy as loons most days, flinging themselves from event to event and trying to balance writing and teaching and blogging and the occasional teeth flossing -- see the promotional aspect of my new world as highly romantic. They're...
