All Hail Exxon

Posted February 15, 2008 | 17:09:00 (EST)

I can't believe Investors Business Daily would do so little checking of an editorial on Tuesday slamming the critics of ExxonMobil.

The editorial, "Record Profits Mean Record Taxes," is based in large part on a blog post by Mark Perry, an economics professor at the Flint,...

Energy Bill: Crumbs or Loaves?

Posted December 20, 2007 | 11:02:49 (EST)

Looking at the energy bill, I'd say Congress is settling for crumbs and trying to count them as loaves -- at least until 2009 and TEOB, "The End of Bush."

It's true that by Washington standards for the last decade, the bill was a "landmark," as supporters keep saying. Unlike...

It's more a reminder of the "dictator penalty" in Big Oil's dealings with the world's worst governments. There may also be criminal charges to...

Oil briefly touched $88 a barrel today with Turkey poised to approve military raids inside Iraq against Kurdish rebels. Oh, what rubbish.

Every time the price of oil goes up $3 or $5 a barrel, analysts point with alarm to Iraq, Iran, Venezuela or Nigeria. In today's case, no...

Getting Biofuels to the Pump

Posted October 9, 2007 | 18:35:18 (EST)

Chevron, BP, Exxon and friends talk a big game on renewable fuels, but it's like Silicon Valley vaporware: all buzz, nothing in production. That's the other half of the story on the sudden U.S. ethanol glut.

The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times...
