This Week's Shining and Falling Stars: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Blake Shelton

Shining Star -- Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Her name may be a mouthful, but Maxim mag only needs one word to describe the Victoria's Secret model: hot.

This week, Whiteley, who was virtually unheard of a year ago, topped Maxim's annual "Hot 100" list. The British stunner beat out plenty of other beauties for the title, including Olivia Munn (who came in right behind her at #2), Anna Kournikova (at #19, her name seems like a blast from the past), and Britney Spears (#25).

Whitelely also may have unintentionally added insult to injury to another lady on the Maxim list: Megan Fox. Not only did the 24-year-old leave Fox in the dust on the "Hot 100" list (Fox landed at #17), she also swiped the actress' cushy acting gig -- replacing her in the upcoming, Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Zipping from nowhere to the top of the men's mag charts -- now that's a model for Hollywood success.

Falling Star -- Blake Shelton

Well, it's looking like "Falling Star" may soon have to change its name to "Twidiot of the Week," because more and more celebs are making fools of themselves on Twitter.

Country-crooner Blake Shelton becomes the latest Twitter user to take a tumble. The judge on NBC's new show, The Voice, may have thought he was mighty clever when he rewrote a classic Shania Twain song for his more than 300,000 followers on the micro-messaging site. But the lyrics he replaced in "Any Man of Mine" managed to offend plenty of fans, and triggered a scolding from gay advocacy group, GLAAD.

On Wednesday, Shelton tweeted, "Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He's gonna be a beaten, bleedin', heaving kind of guy..."

Twitter member @lindasusan tweeted back, "@blakeshelton If a man makes a pass at you, how about trying "no thanks" instead of violence? That tweet is MESSED UP." And GLAAD released a statement indicating the reworked tune wouldn't exactly be up for any Grammys, "One has to wonder how Shania feels about seeing her anthem about strong women and female empowerment turned into a violent threat."

At first, Shelton seemed to mock his Twitter critics, writing, "Ba! Ha! Reading all my anti-gay hate tweets.... Ha! Ha! If people only knew even a little about me, my family and friends. Dumb asses..."

But then the "Hillbilly Bone" singer (or his P.R. team) changed his tune, writing in a series of tweets:

Hey y'all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night...It honestly wasn't even meant that way... I now know that their [sic] are people out there waiting to jump at everything I say on here or anywhere. But when it comes to gay/lesbian rights or just feelings... I love everybody. So go look for a real villain and leave me out of it!!!

Hopefully that will be the last song that Shelton tries to give a makeover. Who knows what he might do to "Stand by Your Man."

I know Blake and his family very well. we was friends in High School and still are. He is just a country boy and would give anybody, regardless of sexual preference the shirt off his back. He doesn't have a fake or racist bone in his body. What you see is what you get with him. He is truly a good and as down to earth as a person can get. I would rather see someone be who they are all the time and stick their foot in their mouth occasionally or often than for them to be one way in public and another in private. He is just and Okie and around here we speak first and think later.(Although I don't recommend it) I know he did not intend to offend anyone and the thought of it being homophobic never entered his mind. He's just NOT like that. Give the guy a break already. There is always going to be someone out there having a pity party for themselves looking for someone to say something they can break down and turn into a slam against them so they can jump up and make it all about them. That's all this was. The comment was made in fun. Your question about what Shania thought? I am sure she is smart enough to see it was all in fun and not a slam at the Gay community. Blake is a GOOD person.

It's amazing how easily it is for some people to read into something that was absolutely not intended.

Blake Shelton is one of the funniest people in show business and more often then not, he's the butt of his own jokes. Oh geez, as soon as I wrote "butt", I immediately thought someone is going to take that wrong.

I am so sick of people being so PC that simple jokes and comments are often taken in the most negative way and not at all how they were intended.

If you've followed Shelton's career at all, and most of you attacking him clearly haven't......you would know he's just funny and I absolutely love him for his self deprecating humor and his sense of humor period.

A lot of his songs are littered with humor.

I love Blake Shelton.

I'm a progressive and love country music. You might want to pick your fights where they really matter.

I've been friends with Blake since Highschool. He was in Nashville for several years before hitting the big time and fame and fortune hasn't changed him one bit. That tweet was just Blake being Blake. There's just too many people and groups out there looking for a reason to jump and make something all about them.

@SuzanneDevlin How exactly WAS this 'joke' supposed to be intended??

His comment was not funny. Period. If you tolerate that as amusing then I pity you for not knowing the difference.

His little ditty was perpetuating the very wrong assumptions that gay men want to accost straight men and violence against a minority segment of society is okay.

If Blake wants to stop being thought of as an ignorant Okie simpleton then he needs to stop acting like one.

I noticed how you left off the fact that Shelton came out stated outright that he had intended the "rewrite" to be in the same context as Shania Twain's original song, which was a woman's point of view.

He had tweeted the original message late Wed night. When people complained the next morning he sent three replies. The above article mentions the first. A short time later he replied to someone's request with the explanation. Then immediately following he tweeted "Oh...I get it now". All of these replies were sent within about half an hour.

The man didn't even appear to know what people were upset about at first (which would be expected if he meant it as a woman saying a man shouldn't touch her there).

Great comment. Blake and I have been friends since Highschool and he and his family are very down to earth good people. His uncle "Pug" nickname obviously, is probably the funniest person I have ever met. His entire family is solid people. That was just Blake being Blake. No ill will toward anybody or any group. He's just not like that.

I was reading the article and @lindasusan says ""@blakeshelton If a man makes a pass at you, how about trying "no thanks" instead of violence? That tweet is MESSED UP", well according to the lyrics of the song, its more than just a "pass", he says "Any man that tries Touching my behind ..." and if any man or women touches my behind I would do the same. Gay or straight doesnt give you the right to force yourself sexually on someone else. Now with all that being said, it was lyrics to a song, get over it and all this PC crap. He more than likely doesnt have any problems with gay individuals.
10:34 AM on 05/06/2011
He might not have meant it that way....but come on! He has to admit that it does sound bad when you read it. Instead of getting angry, he should be a man and take credit for the fact that he put something out there that could be taken as an incitement to gay violence, even if that was not his intention.

The article is incorrect and misleading. I went back and read all of his tweets through January 2011. It's obvious he drinks and then tweets parodies of other country songs all the time. This was the same thing. It was an anti-men making unwanted advances to women (specifically Shania Twain), and as soon as he realized people were serious in misunderstanding the tweet he made serious attempts to explain himself. If you haven't already done so, I encourage everyone to go read his twitter feed and base your opinons on that and not this article.

How about you go watch some more idol reruns and get a couple more tyler quotes to use. Try being original for a change.

Writer: Randy Newman

Since I was a child
I've tried to be what I'm not
I've lied and I've enjoyed it all my life
I lied to my dear mother
to my sisters and my brother
and now I'm lying to my children and my wife
Big Hat, no cattle
Big head, no brain
Big snake, no rattle
I forever remain
big hat, no cattle
I knew from the start
Big boat, no paddle
Big belly, no heart

Can't remember why I do it,
Oh, maybe I can.
An honest man these days is hard to find.
I only know we're living in an unforgiving land.
And a little lie can buy some real big piece of mind.

Oftimes I wondered what might I have become,
Had I but buckled down and really tried.
But when it came down to the wire
I called my family to my side
Stood up straight, threw my head back and I lied, lied, lied

Big hat, no cattle
Big shoes, well you know...
Big horse, no saddle
He goes wherever I go

Big hat, no cattle
Right from the start
Big guns, no battle
Big belly, no heart

When it came down to the wire
I called my little family to my side
Stood up straight, threw my head back and I lied, lied, lied
lied, lied, lied

Big hat, no cattle
Big head, no brain
Big snake, no rattle
I forever remain
Big hat, no cattle
