Serena Williams And Amy Schumer To Star In 2016 Pirelli Calendar

(0) Comments | Posted September 22, 2015 | 12:26 PM

When Serena Williams revealed on Twitter that she would be featured in the 2016 Pirelli calendar, we knew that "fashion's sexiest calendar" would be getting a whole lot hotter.

And while the annual project is known for its nude and nearly nude images of the world's most beautiful women and supermodels, this year the calendar is moving away from that overtly sexy aesthetic to an exceptionally inspiring one.

Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz was tapped to shoot the 2016 calendar and has captured a list of powerful women that includes actress Amy Schumer, director Ava Duvernay, singer and activist Yoko Ono, supermodel Natalia Vodianova, author Fran Lebowitz and blogger-turned-actress Tavi Gevinson, just to name a few.

“I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits," Leibovitz said in a press release. " I thought that the women should look strong but natural and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward.”

We can't wait to see the finished product. But in the meantime, here are a few behind-the-scenes photos from the amazing shoot.

Lupita Nyong'o Takes Our Breath Away On Her Second Vogue Cover

(0) Comments | Posted September 17, 2015 | 10:43 AM

They say lightning doesn't strike twice, but it certainly has for actress Lupita N'yongo. The stunning "Star Wars" actress has landed her second Vogue cover and has rendered us speechless.

Dressed in a gold-and-crimson Valentino Haute Couture dress, the 32-year-old star and her flawless skin are aglow on the October cover, which was captured by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.

In the cover story, the Kenyan beauty tells writer Plum Sykes about her first encounter with wearing couture clothes. “I didn’t know the power of couture until I tried on a couture dress. It made me cry."

What brings us to tears is the fact that Vogue not only decided to put Nyong'o on its cover for the second time, but that it also comes directly after the glossy's September issue that was graced by Beyoncé

The significance of a black woman immediately following another black woman on the cover of the most influential fashion magazine in the world is not lost on us. In American Vogue's 123-year existence, there have only been 34 covers (see slideshow below) that have featured a black cover model or celebrity -- excluding group shots.

And if the cover wasn't enough, N'yongo also got the "73 Questions" treatment. In the awesome 5-minute video, the "Twelve Years A Slave" actress walks around the Vogue fashion closets while talking about her favorite things -- like her fashion icon, which happens to be her mother. Oh, and her favorite drink happens to be pineapple juice, which she'd like to have with ballerina Misty Copeland one day. Amazing.

Check it out above and make sure to grab the October issue when it hits newsstands on Sept. 22.
