Bush Looks Embattled, But Continues to Come Out Swinging

The headlines on the AOL Welcome Page October 31 read, "Does he make good choices?" This is the question -- the question that begs answering now by Republicans as well as by Democrats. It must be obvious by now that George W. Bush is not capable of making good choices -- a fact that is difficult for anyone in public life to say openly but even harder to refute. Just read his Saturday (October 29) radio address about how well things are going in Iraq. Republicans are faced with a choice between loyalty to him and his Fundamentalist message -- whether or not that loyalty is based on fear of reprisals -- and loyalty to their principles and to what is best for America.

George W. Bush, when cornered, is a dangerous fighter. Fitzgerald has him cornered, despite only having indicted Libby at this point. So while Bush makes choices that are not good for the country -- whether for FEMA or the Supreme Court -- they are good for him and for rubbing our noses in his shit. He is the master at evacuating his feelings into the body politic -- he makes non-fringe Republicans squirm the way Fitzgerald makes him pedal all the harder.
