The turkey's finally digested and another online shopping season is in high gear, so with your indulgence here's my plug for New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund merch. In Santa Looks for Louie, St. Nick is delivering a trumpet and telling his reindeer, "I guess Louie hasn't made it home yet." For online shoppers, nomrf offers this image in everything from a tote for green shopping to holiday cards, and also has a variety of tees.
One hundred percent of the net proceeds benefit the charity's programs, from offering housing for returning musicians to helping musicians find gigs as they make it back to the cradle of jazz and rock.
You can browse HERE or stop by the Saving NOLA store in Jax Brewery, New Orleans, for more merchandise from NOMRF, Global Green, Habitat for Humanity and Make it Right NOLA. And while you're in the neighborhood, visit CC's Coffee because they're offering the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund a percentage of the proceeds from holiday gift bags.
For gamers on your list, Sony Playstation's Little Big Planet will donate proceeds from game levels created by New Orleans musicians like Trombone Shorty and artists including Lionel Milton. Sony and Southern Comfort kicked the new game levels off in style at the Voodoo Music Experience. As one more post-Katrina Thanksgiving gives way to the Holiday Season, I am deeply thankful for the generosity of all of the above.

That drawing is a great depiction of the reality of what's happened to NOLA. Its not just people who have been dispersed. There is a culture in danger of disappearing. The people who were born, bred and soaked in NOLA culture have to get back there and pick up their trumpets and bring the music back. If I had any money to spare for a vacation, I'd go to NO and help someone rebuild their home. There's quite a few building crews to volunteer for if it was possible to leave my job and my kids behind.
