The GOP's African-American Talking Points

Back in August, I heard GOP Party head Ken Mehlman speak at the National Black Journalists Convention in Atlanta. He stressed that the GOP is committed to bringing Blacks into their party.

I actually found myself agreeing with Mehlman when he pointed out that the Democratic Party sometimes takes the African-American vote for granted.

So, I asked a Republican buddy to slip me a copy of their talking points. They are so good about staying on message, it’s easy to see what a great job they are doing!!

It will make covering the next GOP convention much easier. Next time around, I bet they have a lot more Blacks to selectively focus the camera on!

The GOP's Talking Points

1. Remind Blacks They Are Now Much Better Off!

2. Remind Black Evacuees How Fun Homelessness Can Be!!

U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to child evacuees at Reliant Park.

Delay likened their stay to being at camp when he asked: "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"

3. Remind Blacks That Urban Renewal Does Mean Negro Removal In New Orleans!

During a visit to Houston, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson said that after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans might not be predominantly black again.

Jackson, "Whether we like it or not, New Orleans is not going to be 500,000 people for a long time," he said. "New Orleans is not going to be as black as it was for a long time, if ever again."

4. Criticize Affirmative Action While You Promote Rampant Cronyism!

President George Bush, "Brownie, you're doing a helluva job. The FEMA director is working 24 hours a day."

5. Offer To Abort All Their Babies!

William Bennett, former Education Secretary William Bennett, noted Moral and Gambling Authority, "But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
