Karl Ecklund is an experimental particle physicist at Rice University and member of the Compact Muon Solenoid collaboration, an experiment at CERN that announced observation of a new particle consistent with the Higgs Boson. He joined CMS in 2005, contributing to the pixel detector at the heart of CMS. His previous research has focused on properties of the top quark, the heaviest quark of the six known.
