For all I know, Keith Olberman might still be doing his special extended commentary on the You Lie Guy, but I had to get to bed. I have not checked this morning to see if he is still going strong with his fulminating filibuster on stupidity, but he could be. There's plenty of what a southern friend of mine calls "stupid out loud" for Keith to chronicle. It is much easier to talk about stupid guys than complex ideas.
So while we are at it, my favorite guy was not South Carolina's Joe "A protégé of Strom Thurmond" Wilson. I could not get enough of the guy with the handmade "What Bill?" sign in his lap. Was he a holdover from the Clinton health care speech sixteen years earlier and the "What Bill?" indicated he still did not understand the importance of health care reform? Sometimes he acted as if the sign had dropped in his lap from the balcony. Or he was covering a wine spill from dinner. Or it was some Ciallis misfiring.
While others in his pod of pathetics were sternly holding up their white flags, he seemed ambivalent about hoisting his own placard. He pointed to the signage in his lap, "Look at this thing. It wasn't my idea." That whole Republican side of the aisle looked like a bunch of troublemakers I had in a 7th grade study hall that reportedly balked at doing the stand-up, sit-down quad-strengthening exercises for a substitute gym teacher.
Republicans treat President Obama as if he were a substitute and they are just waiting for the real deal to come back in the room. That would be a white Republican male. Their desperate efforts to delegitimize an elected president (not to be confused with their efforts to legitimate a selected president) remind me of their panicked response to the terror attacks on September eleventh, eight years ago. For many of them, it was their first experience being attacked. Unlike women, poor people, and people of color who know being attacked as a pre-existing condition, the white guys freaked. Their world order was rocked. They panicked, put the country in lockdown and retaliated against the wrong country.
Once again their worldview is being rocked -- demographically, racially, economically, politically -- and the Birthers, Deathers and Everything in Betweeners are not behaving well at all. I would suggest detention, but after Guantanamo, it has bad connotations.

"For many of them, it was their first experience being attacked."
I have always wondered why the Bush administration over reacted so much to 9/11 and this explains it perfectly. I would only add that it is not because they are a bunch of white men but rather that they are all rich protected people who have been bred to believe in an elitist world where they have never felt pain. The average white guy in this country who is not rich has felt plenty of pain.
We derive the term "lynching" from an evil genius slave-maker named Willie Lynch who lived in the 1700's. Willie Lynch gave a seminar to Virgina plantation owners on how to break a slave. He says in part:
"The Black slave after receiving this indoctrination shall carry on and will become self re-fueling and self-generating for hundreds of years, maybe thousands. ...you must pitch the old Black male vs. the young Black male, and the young Black male against the old Black male. .... use the dark skin slave vs. the light skin slaves .... You must use the female vs. the male, and the male vs. the female. You must also have your white servants and overseers distrust all Black, but it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us, They must love, respect and trust only us."
He makes mention in his speech though, that the mind has a tendency to correct itself over time. The start of the slave-making cycle has to do with the rending apart, tarring and burning the strongest black male. This begins the slave woman's thought process that we must submit and train our children to submit to the masters.
The sons of the south know Lynch's strategy - it has worked well for nearly three hundred years, as he predicted. Obama represents the mind's correcting itself -- It is necessary to rend him apart to begin the indoctrination process again. The masters want their place back.
OO Are you ever informative.
The Republicans (as in Southern Strategy when Reagan went to the town where Shwerner and Goodman were killed to appeal to the Southern white male)
--- After appointing GWB claiming recounting votes was against "W"s civil rights, butAnd this argument can never be used again -- Republicans divided us as Reagan had (He told low income and rural males: Welfare mothers were the root of their economic woews.)----
Leading to 2004 elections was all about Republicans dividing us Just when we needed to be united -- Catholic against Catholic, Veteran against veteran, states against states particularly Massachusetts (Romney used to trash it in Carolinas while Governor for money), Employer against employee (Republican Labor secratary sent employers memos on how they can avoid paying overtime), African Americans and Christians against LGBs, ill inforemed against the knowledgable ("elites").......a No win situaiton for OUR country for sure.
And just when we thought (some thought) the monster was killed the Inamates are now running the institutions of Communications so critical to an informed electorate.
Insightful. The Republicans have taken the slave indoctrination process and applied it to the entire voting middle class where it has taken root. They use the cable news media to constantly reinforce the message. They know that this works because they have perfected it over hundreds of years. "Divide and conquer" has been applied to the TV watching public. The chaos we see is not an aberration but a strategy. Democrats are fighting Democrats, Independents are fighting everybody, and the Republican base waits to vote as a disciplined block in the next election. It is all over for Obama. I wish he were a politician instead of a speech maker.
Republicans to reclassify disabilities of Social Security and SSI????? I have read 2 articles in local papers about Social security being changed and the denial of benefits that have been "rushed through"
Many are at risk of loosing everything if this continues to be overshadowed by other issues.
Also, the federal "free lunch program" was also being talked about. WE must keep the free lunch for children. Frankly, it is one of the best "government run" programs.
On the button.
I loved the comment about pre-existing condition.
That is why arguments against affirmative action, which sound good on the surface, don't hold.
"injustice in the past doesn't legitimize injustice in the future."
Then why are people, even nations held accountable for their actions?
Why punish the Iraqi or Afghani peoples for actions of their leaders? And after the fact?
Kate is seldom wrong in her political analysis, though it is sometimes not very funny.
I live in an integrated, Mid Atlantic, barrio. I either have learned to ignore white whine or there isn't white whine in mi barrio. No, I don't lsten to AM talk radio either or watch TV. I speak el Espanol & know enough Arabic, Farsi & Hindi to talk to the people who work in conveince stores. Mi barrio isn't like eastern NC or SW Oh, thank god. The whites here decided to live here. The whites who had lived here before the neighborhood became a barrio moved out long ago or died of old age.
The only white wine used here is fortified white port & Sprite. Fortified wine is 40 proof. White port tastes like lighter fluid. When you take over 10 prescription meds per your primary care physician's orders the condition is called poly-pharmacy-that means NO alcohol. I choose to comply with my physicians directions. It has worked for me for 50 years. I'm 72 now. OK, OK, only the good die young.
I get the feeling there's a Star Wars parallel in this behavior also.
Maybe "Attack of the Clones?"
So well-written !! You have captured their essence, their mindset, and their childishness in this piece and thank you for doing it. Your analogy was so right on target -- they are behaving exactly like insolent, petulant children who are excited about doing so because it's 'just a substitute' in their minds. The disrespect is just jaw-droppingly unbelievable. But that's not even the biggest problem in this matter. The BIGGEST problem is that so far, their behavior has been tolerated!! The rest of the American people are just sitting back and watching it. And other than posting daily complaints on the Huffington Post, I don't see anyone or any group speaking out against it.
What a contrast with the Dixie Chicks who were a whisper away from being driven out of the country for daring to speak the truth about GWBush. Yet, Joe Wilson can yell out and call President Obama a |iar in front of the nation, and Congress is still mulling it over?!?!?! Still TRYING to decide whether they should take action against him?!??!? Oh, please. Believe you me, had a B|ack congressman behaved in that manner toward a wh!te President, no one would be 'mulling' ANYTHING over. By now, someone would have found a long-forgotten clause/ rule/ law or some sneaky backdoor trick to get him out of office tout de suite.
As a white guy, I concur. I actually love this 'article' and believe it to be spot on. It's hilarious watching a bunch of my supposed brethern, the white male, hem and haw, whine and moan, cry and carry on as if the world is coming to an end with every new move by the President and Dems in Congress. They claim to be 'Great Americans,' as Hannity would most certainly label them, but really they are simply frightened little children, longing for an America that kept those of color under their thumb, along with the ladies. And if you don't believe me, take a look at the book The Family, which clearly maps out their domestic and global strategy and showcases the simple fact that they believe they are the chosen ones and the rules do not apply to their sick brotherhood. If they want to talk about the anti-Christ, they should simply look in the mirror. They are poison...to this nation and this world.
To be fair, many whites people, including yours truly, recognized Obama's superior intellect, skill, and vision. We voted for him. The whining remnant is a severe embarassment to the human race.
Thank you for that comment.
