McCain's Mockery of Women

digg Share this on Facebook Huffpost - stumble reddit del.ico.us RSS

I don't know Sarah Palin. Who does? They've kept her away from the press. And we see from her interview with Katie Couric that they did so with good reason. She is confident. That's about it in terms of readiness to be vice president.

With all the competent women available, John McCain chose someone as a running mate who thinks Putin is hovering over Alaskan air space or some such nonsense when he "rears his head" and, I guess, goes for a spin.

Sarah Palin's candidacy for vice president is a mockery of women. It's beyond insulting. It's not that we can't weather this, but it shows us how little John McCain thinks of women. He is using Palin -- plain and simple.

There aren't enough days in the week, weeks in a month, months in a year to get Sarah Palin up to speed. McCain knew this. In fact, it's reasonable to believe that he didn't properly vet her because he wanted to know as little as possible.

For once feminist angst is a good thing. I'm angry! This is a base use of a woman, not for her experience, character, intellect, years of public service or other substantive qualities and achievements, but because she can be packaged to attract attention. She's a curiosity - a novelty. She's a woman of mystery only in the sense that we see so little of her.

Maybe Barack should start telling the press Joe isn't available. When reporters arrive tomorrow morning, he should say, "Joe isn't ready today. Maybe tomorrow. Thank you for coming."

I could be wrong, but it shouldn't take long for a lot of women to resent McCain's little game being played at far more than Palin's expense.

Sure, the Obamaniacs are "outraged". Because John McCain exploited Obama's BLATANT SEXISM. It is your darling Obama who shafted Hillary. Hillary, the woman who got more votes than he did. And then he snubs her for VP.

I LOVED it when McCain chose Palin! Even if it fails, it was BRILLIANT. And it glaringly highlighted Obama's SEXISM and STUPIDITY.

If Obama wins, it will not be because of anything HE did. It will just be because the economy got bad. The Obama/Biden ticket is the WEAKEST that the Democrats could possibly have come up with.

And lets face it. Do the Republicans care that Palin isn't a policy wonk? Do the Independents? It is only the Obama fans who criticize her lack of experience.

And she actually has MORE executive experience than Obama and she is just running for VP!

It's funny when Republicans write replies on HuffPo, because they make themselves sound dumber than we can imagine.

JackO, do you really think any of this makes sense? Obama is sexist and stupid? Hardly. And even though I voted for Hillary in the primaries, I accept that she lost, I understand why she isn't the VP choice, and I am behind Obama-Biden 100%.

The Obama-Biden ticket is a least 10 times as strong as their opponent's and the majority of the country will prove it to you on November 4.

SO...did the Republicans allow the economy to crash just to have a GOOD excuse when OBAMA won??

The Principal of a State College probably has more EXECUTIVE experience than the Governor of a state with less than 700,000 has...and a SENATOR has to at least READ something from time to time.

Here here. Well stated and absolutely accurate.

This is nothing more that old fashioned tokenism pure and simple. Tokenism based on sex is Sexism, and sexism is offensive.

Dr. Reardon, your outrage is totally appropriate and I hope is shared by the majority of the country that can still tell right from wrong.

McCain is from a generation that believes women are there to be used and abused.

His thinking hasn't evolved as time has gone by, and is applicable to a whole theme park of issues!

He's out of date and almost out of time!

McCain does not fool anyone. His pick of Palin was just a trick to rope in the religious right and some disgruntled female Clinton supporters who have since woke up. Many GOP voters are also pulling the wool off from over their eyes and seeing Palin and the charade McCain is involved in. Or does McCain really know whats going on in his camPAIN!

It's been obvious from his announcement why he picked Sarah. Let's face it - 15 minutes and that's all it takes to pick out your VP running mate. We all could see through it. Problem is that his choice of Sarah made all those who think "oh, she's a woman, and if we couldn't have Clinton, then we have a woman" that they should be voting for his ticket.

Problem is that she was too stupid to see why she was picked. Now that it's hopefully obvious to those (who McCain was counting on being too stupid to get it" who were swept up in the Sarah idiocy, that this is just plain dangerous to our country, perhaps they will come around.

Feel bad for her being taken advantage of, if you like, but DO NOT PUT HER IN OFFICE because you feel sorry for her. Same goes for him - there are LOTS of POW'S out there and probably many of them are more qualified than he is, but DO NOT PUT HIM IN OFFICE just because you feel badly for him. Look at him for what he really is. My adjectives would not be allowed on Huffington, but you can imagine.

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL.

John McCain has a long history of womanizing. You may recall when someone in one of his town hall meetings referred to Senator Clinton using the "B" word, he laughed heartily in response. He has voted against bills offering equal pay for equal work and health insurance coverage for birth control as is the case for Viagra.

In Palin, McCain found a shiny, new object to rejuvenate his campaign and excite his base. It's the old adage, "Look pretty and keep quiet." How insulting to women everywhere.

You are absolutely correct. In fact, Sen McCain's response to women only earning 77 cents on the dollar compared to men's income was that women need more education and training. Just to reiterate your point, Sen McCain has one of the worst voting records on women's issues be it equal pay, education, special education.

BTW, not only did McCain laugh about Sen Clinton being called a b***ch, but didn't he make a joke in a previous campaign that started out with..."Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly?" At the time Chelsea was a minor child.

Thank you for the story. I am not a female but I am mad as hell that anyone would 'use' a person so indiscreetly as is happening to Ms. Palin. It is despicable that a VP candidate would be placed in a vise to be crushed to death. This must be another example of 'high drama' being displayed by an irreverent McEvil! She deserves better than she is getting. She deserves a medal for enduring this crap!

I don't feel sorry for Palin. She knows she not ready for the job but she doesn't care. She's always had dreams of becoming president.

She may not realize but by continuing this charade she is going to damage her own political career and no one will ever take her serious again.

She fielded questions yesterday. However, the press bias is so palpable it stinks, and it's not Mac who is playing sexism on her.

Couric never had the courtesy even to use her title, Governor Pal. Put-downs galore. Today, her statement which is identical to Hill's is described as stupid. Biden makes a whopper gaffe, misnaming the proper president who was in power when the crash occured and even being so silly as to talk about how he went on TV.......and nobody is saying that he's unqualified! Heck, they aren't even demanding to see his medical papers.

This year, my former Dem friends talk about little other than the obvious press bias and how it's made them angry.

Your argument is facile, since the issue at hand is whether or not the VP candidate can think coherently, rationally and independently, and whether or not they can act effectively as a diiplomat and ambassador. In terms of Biden vs. Palin, catalogued facts, or the content of what they say, are not so much being questioned as the mindset, context or over-view they convey. And in this, Palin shows an astonishing incapacity to sensibly appraise or even begin to comprehend he complexity of political awareness. Behind her talking-points there is a slow mind. This is the problem.

Mockery and sexism. To pick an obviously unqualified woman...who is gorgeous to boot...is to make her a trophy candidate.

It's beyond offensive. They are parading her around like a trophy. Hooking her up with world leaders and having them awe over her beauty and how nice she is and "can I get a hug". It's ... well I won't type what I'm really thinking ... but it doesn't look well for her to allow herself to be paraded around, but not "ALLOWED" to have an intelligent conversation with the press or the American people. It's almost as if they're saying to her "we just want you to look the part. Wear those cute glasses and be sure to avoid any serious questions ... we'll handle the serious stuff". Come on now women! What if you're the Vice President of a corporation and the male CEO set up a board meeting for you, slid you a sheet of talking points and told you to look cute and don't say anything that's not on that paper. How long would you put up with that?

The world leaders themselves view her as an 'object' not a serious contender. As far as they are concerned, she should be doing the Dance of the Seven Veils...not wasting their time...

I don't understand why people are suddenly realizing that McCain has contempt for women. What about his conduct in the past has suggested otherwise?

I have said this same bit for weeks and no one else appears to have noticed. When Palin has sound bites which show her more aligned with Cheney/Bush and Rove on so many levels much more than McCain why are women not even looking at her and how she supports McCains lack of concern about women and issues which have anything to do with women children, vets and troops this has barely got any mention. It would appear that the Palin loving women have also given a pass on the team of 'mavericks" as they call themselves. It guess that the vets and troops don't have mothers nor wives or sisters or daughters that would run screaming without a doubt if their loved ones were mistreated and yet McCain for all of his years in the Senate hasn't voted in favor of so many things which reasonable people would dislike him for without a doubt and yet these females support the GOP ticket like they never have learned how to read and don't know how to search the record of McCains lack of care/concern and votes. Palin just downright would love to make sure your daughters/wives/mothers and anyone female suffer the having to not be able to get a legal abortion and should have to pay for the DNA tests to catch the rapist. Just think how many more children of rapists could be born and the women have to dela with them as well.

McCain doesn't recognize the difference between qualified, intelligent women and women like Palin, so he thinks we don't recognize the difference either. He's like a child who covers his eyes and thinks we can't see him.

Women tend to fear answering to such insults in public because misogynists' censure of outspoken women is swift and retributive. But once the curtain closes behind them in the voting booth, women will definitely answer to the insult that McCain has dealt them by choosing Palin.

We will have our revenge against McCain's insult and Palin's desire to rob us of our rights as American women.

This is the biggest joke since Quale-even worse coz she was picked for her gender. And that gender card demeans our intelligence-women and men-all. God help us. First Bush/Chenney-now this. Are you kidding me?? I don't even know where to go with McCain and Palin or the few days left Bush administration. ...Somebody wake me up after we have Obama and Joe and other wonderful people who represent real America!
