Kathy Huang first developed a passion for documentary filmmaking in the dusty fields of South Texas. Inspired by her experiences teaching at-risk youth, she produced Scribble’s Creations, a portrait of a teenager coming of age along the U.S.-Mexico border. Her subsequent work has continued to explore underrepresented communities confronting unique challenges. Her short documentaries Night Visions and Miss Chinatown U.S.A. screened at festivals across the U.S., including Tribeca and SILVERDOCS, and aired on public television. She recently completed her first feature documentary, Tales of the Waria. The ITVS-funded project premiered to sold-out audiences in San Francisco and Los Angeles and garnered several Audience Choice Awards. The Advocate called the film "a fascinating exposé," and Jezebel.com noted that its "beauty and honesty are heartbreaking."

Kathy received a B.A. in history from Harvard University and an M.A. in documentary film production from Stanford University. She currently works in New York as a freelance cinematographer and producer.
