Posted: 05/05/11 02:57 PM ET

Mother's Day is one of the most difficult holidays to shop for. How do you say thanks for all that she's given you with a gift and greeting card? The secret to buying the perfect Mother's Day gift is to know your mom and choose something that complements her interests and her personality.

To narrow down the limitless field of possibilities, I've selected a few items that make for great Mother's Day gifts. To narrow down the time you spend deciding which is most appropriate, I've selected some classic mom personality types and categorized each gift appropriately.

Great for: All Moms!

Though some may call this a safe gift, for moms who like flowers, it’s the perfect way to say "Thanks" and "I love you." You can visit your local florist for a custom arrangement or use an online floral service like FTD.com. If you want to switch things up a bit, try an Edible Arrangement like the one pictured above.

Place it in a coffee mug filled with her favorite candies and wrap it in shrink wrap, or buy a pretty picture frame to house the gift card. No matter what your budget is or who your mama is, finding the perfect gift doesn't have to be a chore. So get creative, get personal, and let somebody else be in the gift-giving doghouse this year.
