Katie Lewallen grew up in Shreveport, La. and will graduate from Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. this coming May with a degree in Political Science – part of the Lilly "Faith and Work" Fellowship.

During her college career thus far, Lewallen has volunteered at a soup kitchen, tutored inner-city high school and middle school students, and interned for the Mississippi Center for Justice. She also worked for Mission Africa on a two-month mission trip to Malawi. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, Katie assisted with medical triage at a shelter set up in her hometown.

Last year, Lewallen worked on her first Democratic campaign, serving as the Interim Field Director and then Deputy Finance Director on Jamie Franks’ campaign for Lt. Governor of Mississippi. This passion for politics led Lewallen to spend a semester in Washington, D.C., where she studied at American University and worked as an Associate for Zata|3, a direct voter contact firm.

When not working the front desk at the Democratic National Convention Committee, Lewallen enjoys art history, very bad chick lit, and playing with her new puppy, Beaux.
