Vegan Living: Vegan Brunch

3 Comments | Posted May 27, 2009 | 03:21 PM (EST)

I love breakfast. I get annoyed at people who skip breakfast and go straight to lunch just because they woke up at noon. I think restaurants that serve breakfast all day deserve an award. And Fat Tuesday should come once a month -- breakfast for dinner!

Breakfast hasn't been...

Next time someone says my tofu scrambler or tempeh burger looks gross, I'll just show them this clip:

Vegan Living: No Joke - Letterman Knows Circuses Aren't for Animals

Posted March 27, 2009 | 05:45 PM (EST)

As the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus marched into Manhattan this week, I was reminded that vegan living is not only about making animal-friendly decisions when it comes to food and clothing, but entertainment as well. And circuses with animal "performers" do not fit the vegan bill.

Vegan Living: Great Chefs Cook Vegan

Posted February 19, 2009 | 02:26 PM (EST)

I'm certainly no great chef. For a long time my specialty (because it was the only thing I knew how to make) was pancakes from a box mix. My mom hoped I would work in a restaurant after I left home so I could at least get a good meal...

Vegan Living: Gossip Girl's Vegan Joke

Posted January 22, 2009 | 05:22 PM (EST)

I don't look to the Upper East Siders of "Gossip Girl" for (intentional) comedy. Everyone knows the really funny stuff is on the west side, where Jerry Seinfeld and Tina Fey live. But the attempt at humor on this week's "Gossip Girl" hit a new low when Blair made a...

Posted December 16, 2008 | 03:54 PM (EST)

One of the most challenging things when I first became a vegan was finding shoes. And not just vegan shoes, but stylish, not made from hemp vegan shoes. As much as I would love to buy a pair of the shoes Natalie Portman designed for Te Casan, $185 for...

Vegan Living: How Not to Market a Vegetarian Restaurant

Posted December 12, 2008 | 01:17 PM (EST)

In two recent interviews, Amanda Cohen seems to think she's going to boost business at her East Village restaurant Dirt Candy by calling vegans unimaginative weirdos with terrible taste in food.

I don't like to draw lines between vegetarians and vegans. We do have our differences: vegetarians don't...

With the passage of Proposition 2 in California, which bans farmers from raising some farmed animals in small cages by 2015, and Sarah Palin's interview in front of turkeys being slaughtered, animal rights have been commanding a bigger role in the mainstream consciousness just in the past...

Newsweek's Standards Tumble Off Track With Sexist Olympic Coverage

Posted August 6, 2008 | 04:00 PM (EST)

This summer's Olympics have a new criterion for medals: adorableness.

At least I think that's what Newsweek said. In the August 4 issue, "A Viewer's Guide to Beijing" gives readers a quick background on some of the rivalries and athletes to watch at this summer's Games. The section...
