There's no easier way to put it: a Romney-Ryan White House would be a disaster for women. From health care to equal pay for equal work, the GOP ticket has proven they're not interested in the well-being of America's women and -- in turn -- our families.
SEIU (Service Employees International Union) recently released a Birth Control Calculator that helps voters determine the increase in birth control costs under an anti-women Romney administration. The numbers are staggering.
Per the calculator, an 18-year-old uninsured woman on the pill, patch or vaginal ring would pay $99,238 over the course of her childbearing years if Romney wins this election. A 30-year-old uninsured woman on the pill would pay $57,566 and an insured 25-year-old on the patch would pay $12,999. Thanks to President Obama, millions of women across the country have gained access to birth control with no co-pay.
While President Obama has made birth control more readily available to woman, Romney wants to take us back to the days of wire hangers and illegal back alley abortions. Romney's goal is to make birth control impossible to attain for many women at the same time he overturns Roe v. Wade. In addition, Romney supports the Blunt Amendment which would allow corporations and CEOs to deny coverage of health services -- including contraception -- to their employees on the basis of their personal moral objections.
The Republican nominee says he's in favor of a smaller government, yet he's heavily invested in legislating our reproductive rights. I have one question for Romney: If you're determined to make most forms of birth control out of reach for many and you know that many households are run by women you believe shouldn't make the same amount of money for the same amount of work as their male counterparts and you're in favor of cutting forms of assistance to help rear these children you're forcing on us, what are we supposed to do?
Actually, the answer is rather simple: don't support the ticket that does not support women. There's a clear choice between the two candidates. Tomorrow, let's vote against this gross assault on women and keep misogynist legislation out of our Congress and out of our White House.
