Keli Goff is a popular blogger and commentator, and recognized for her ability to effortlessly traverse the worlds of politics and pop culture, covering subjects as diverse as the latest O.J. Simpson trial, to the presidential debates. She has appeared on a number of programs including: CNN’s “Paula Zahn Now,” “Showbiz Tonight,” and “Reliable Sources,” and FOX News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor” and “Hannity & Colmes” (among others).

She is the author of the forthcoming book Party Crashing: How the Hip-Hop Generation Declared Political Independence (Basic Books, February/March 2008). Party Crashing explores the cultural and political divide between black Americans of the civil rights generation and their children and grandchildren, known collectively as the hip-hop generation. Covering a diverse array of issues from hip-hop, to gay marriage, and the growing Independent voter movement among younger black Americans, “Party Crashing” is an in-depth look at how generational differences are impacting the 2008 presidential election, and future elections.

Keli’s extensive background in politics and media includes a number of high profile political and public relations campaigns. She served as Campaign Manager for Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s successful re-election in 2002 and was Deputy Campaign Manager for “Vote No On 3,” a campaign the New York Times labeled “hugely successful.” Spearheaded by a coalition that included unions and good government groups, “Vote No on 3,” was a campaign to defeat a ballot measure drafted to end party primaries in New York City. In spite of being outspent nearly 10 to 1, the initiative was soundly defeated 70% to 30%.

At Fenton Communications Keli served as the lead publicist on the launch of SheSource.org, an online media resource created to increase the presence of women experts on major networks. Since its inception, SheSource.org experts have been seen on numerous networks, including: ABC, BBC, CNN, FOX News Channel and many others.

She holds a B.A. from New York University and a Master’s degree in Strategic Communications from Columbia University. A native of Texas, Keli’s foray into politics began with an internship on Hillary Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign.

Keli’s areas of expertise include: Political Strategy; Youth and Minority Voters; Media coverage of campaigns and elections; Communications and Media Strategy; Representations of women and minorities in the media; African-American socio-economic and political issues; the Hip-Hop Generation and Celebrity Culture.

McCain's Perez Hilton Problem

9 Comments | Posted July 14, 2008 | 01:22 PM (EST)

It's no secret that last week was not a good one for John McCain. His old friend, Phil Gramm, demonstrated such a sad case of foot in mouth disease with his "mental recession" line that it was almost as though Gramm was acting as an Obama campaign covert operative....

Barack Obama's Most Groundbreaking Domestic Policy Speech

37 Comments | Posted June 16, 2008 | 05:14 PM (EST)

It's been nearly a year and a half since this presidential campaign began. In that time we've been subjected to countless speeches, some good, some bad and some just plain ugly, and many -- actually most -- completely unmemorable. But there are some exceptions, speeches that actually are worth remembering,...

Obama has Made History but Can He Change it?

Throughout this primary campaign so much focus has been paid to the role of race. There have been debates about whether or not Barack Obama is "black enough" or whether he will ever be able to win over working class (or as Sen. Clinton calls them "

Hillary, O.J. and R.F.K.

As I watched the non-stop weekend coverage of Hillary Clinton's recent comments referencing the RFK assassination I couldn't help being reminded of the O.J. Simpson verdict. Just as those notorious split screens on every single television network in 1995 argued that there were two vantage points in America: one...

How to Lose an Election 101

Posted May 6, 2008 | 04:35 PM (EST)

A couple of years ago I listened as one Democratic activist described what it felt like to be a Democrat during most of the Bush-pushing last decade. She said it was akin to being on a football field and watching as the opposing team unveiled one Adonis after the other...

Not Just Any Woman

Posted April 16, 2008 | 03:44 PM (EST)

For months we have been bombarded with increasingly amusing analysis regarding the identity politics at play this presidential election. I say amusing because the headlines and articles have featured questions ranging from the inane -- "Is Barack Obama black enough?" -- to the overly simplistic -- "How will black women...

The Bush Administration and the Politics of "Punishment"

Posted April 4, 2008 | 10:28 AM (EST)

Question for you. I am an African-American female in my twenties. What would you guess is the leading cause of death for someone like me? A pretty morbid question I know, but one worth asking. When most of us think of someone dying young, we think of circumstances both unexpected...

Why Democrats Should Already be Worried About the 2012 Election

Posted March 17, 2008 | 02:46 PM (EST)

Over the last several weeks there has been a great deal of speculation regarding how the increasingly bitter and contentious Democratic primary could ultimately effect the 2008 presidential election, but at this point Democrats may have reason to be even more concerned about the 2012 election.

Nearly a year...

Clinton's New Campaign Manager is Black (But Shhh! Don't Tell Anyone)

Posted February 13, 2008 | 07:14 PM (EST)

Talk about irony. As I was sitting in a studio with award-winning Latina journalist Maria Hinojosa preparing to appear on CNN for a discussion regarding black and Latino voters, it was announced on-air that Clinton campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, who had made history as the first Latina to helm...

All Black Candidates Look Alike

Posted January 28, 2008 | 08:27 PM (EST)

Who knew all black candidates look alike? I certainly didn't but I appreciate former President Bill Clinton for reminding me that some people just can't help thinking that they do.

Let me be clear here. I am not implying that the former president actually thinks that all black...

How the Clinton-Obama Fairy Tale Turned Into a Nightmare

Posted January 14, 2008 | 12:28 PM (EST)

It was supposed to be a fairy tale come true for our country. Finally, after more than two centuries it looked like America's most exclusive club just might be ready to admit a woman and an African-American. Only membership benefits at this particular club offer a lot more than access...

Oops! She Did it Again: An Open Letter to Gloria Steinem

In discussing the train wreck that has become Britney Spears, the headline "Oops, she did it again," (a reference to her 2000 hit song of the same name) has been used so much by the tabloids to describe her increasingly bizarre behavior that it has officially peaked to the point...
