Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, in 1965. He is the author of The Kite Runner and a Thousand Splendid Suns. Since 2006, he has served as a Goodwill Envoy for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, focusing most recently on issues affecting returning Afghan refugees. He lives in California with his wife and two children.
