Vote A Million Dollars For Autism Today

Posted: 01/20/10 11:18 AM ET

Remember the old saying about how different the world would be if the Defense Department had to hold bake sales to buy bombs? Well, in the autism world, we have to hold bake sales to raise money for just about everything. Autism now strikes one in 110 American children, yet receives far less funding than other pediatric diagnoses.

Today, we have a chance to win $1,000,000 for autism in the Chase Community Giving Program (VOTE HERE). I'm asking on bended knee for your vote for The National Autism Association.

Please, join our community and our friends at Autism Speaks, TACA, Autism One, Generation Rescue, SafeMinds, Unlocking Autism, The Schafer Autism Report, Autism United and many others and cast your vote HERE for NAA.

With this money, they can fully fund their Project Found, which provides grant money for GPS locator systems to prevent death and injury from wandering (or bolting) away from home. They are fighting against restraint and seclusion in our schools. They can fund the Helping Hand Grant which puts dollars directly into needy families' wallets. They can continue to help single Moms and Dads through the Family First Project. And they can offer more scholarships to their annual conference.

Thank you.

Thanks Kim. I posted this on Facebook. I have two family members with autism (my son being one). If you live in NJ like I do, you probably know someone too. A million dollars would go a long way toward helping our kids.

Hi - you could live on the moon and know someone with autism today. But Jersey has more than its share, that's for sure. The prevalence is shocking. Thanks for helping. That money will be spent wisely and have a real impact on families. Kim

GREAT VIDEO! I've passed this on to my network of nieces and nephews, all on Facebook. These are the kids who will take care of their autistic cousin, my son, when I'm no longer able to.

Thank you, Kim!

Autism is a national health crisis that is being treated as a minor nuisance in terms of funding and our kids are paying the ultimate price. Please help by voting! www.VoteAutismNow.com

Autism Society of America, you serve these families too--please help!

Kim, I spoke with an administrator in our school district of Katy ISD this week. We have one elementary school that has 14 children with autism in Kindergarten ALONE! That's almost one in ten children. These children were not moved to the school for programming, they are zoned to that school. If you are not affected by autism yet and want to know when you should be alarmed, the answer is YESTERDAY. Please help NAA help families www.voteautismnow.com

Thanks, Kim, for helping us spread the word.

Thank you Kim!! You rock!! We are fortunate to have you in our corner. Sooo fortunate.

Come on people, how could you deny anyone with autism a chance for assistance? This money will go a long way in helping ALL families struggling with autism. Vote now and then get your friends and familiy to vote too.

Honestly, I've never a finer, harder working group of people than those who love and care for individuals with autism. Please do this one small thing to help them out.

Thank you!!

I was in a group where one of the women had two children with autism and had another child on the way. She is on public assistance. She smoked during her pregnancies. She stated that she had aspergers herself. No one, and I'm ashamed that included me, had the courage to confront her. It is hard to believe she had two children with autism, but I had known another with three. I think that people with such a history should be very circumspect about having more children and health care professionals need to counsel them in an assertive manner. There needs to be research into a genetic component to autism. Perhaps there was some common environmental factor such as smoking, I really don't know. But it seems more than a coincidence and tragic for the children involved.
