The Veuve Clicquot flowed freely on Wednesday night at the Style Awards at Lincoln Center, where many of New York's most fashionable people were gathered to celebrate the past year's style successes. Through the evening's hobnobbing and cork popping, the glitterati of the fashion industry happily cheered model Joan Smalls to the stage for "Model of the Year," and even gave an encouraging lift to Jenn Rogien, a slightly less well-known face, who won "TV Costume Designer of the Year" for her work on Girls.
At the show's preceding open-bar mixer, I had the opportunity to chat up Ed Westwick, who was thrilled to be named the year's male "One to Watch" in fashion. Other notable male attendees included athletes Henrik Lundqvist (who took home "Best Dressed Athlete") and Amar'e Stoudemire, whose imposing height and stunningly beautiful date turned heads throughout the room. Much was made of the fact that the Style Awards were Katie Holmes' first turn on the Red Carpet in months. Wearing a Carolina Herrera pocketed skirt and gold heels, she gracefully presented icon Carolina Herrera with the award for "Designer of the Year." The roster of eye-catching names in attendance also included Nicole Richie, Amy Adams, Allison Williams, and Katharine McPhee. They shared tables with an imposing cadre of industry leaders such as Hamish Bowles, Amy Fine Collins, Hal Rubinstein, and the legendary supermodel Iman.
For the first time, the Style Awards will be aired on television and can be viewed on the Style Network on Friday, September 14.
