Justice for My Husband

Posted: 05/02/11 01:52 AM ET

The news of the death of Osama bin Laden gives me a sense of long-awaited, meaningful closure.

Ten years since the senseless, heartless murder of my husband and 3,000 innocent others, final justice has been meted out -- though not swift it is certainly sweet.

My 12-year-old daughter will wake tomorrow to a safer world, hopefully a more peaceful world. And that brings me a rare sense of relief.

And I am enormously grateful for the tireless effort and incredible courage and bravery of our counter-terrorism agents who for ten long years remained focused and undeterred in their mission to capture and kill Osama bin Laden.

I remember 9/11 well as we all do. I had just moved from NYC and my family lived in DC, so I knew everyone I knew and loved was surrounded in chaos....This is a day where will all feel justice. I hope and pray to God that these terrorists think before they retaliate and they wil.... they bide their time. However, I pray for a brighter tomorrow, for just some peace and our nation can recover economically and get back on track.....In a world full of violence and hate, how do you grow up with happiness and hope?

Special Forces don't act on their own. They get orders from the president.

I am happy to see that some who lost loved ones are finding closure from this long overdue event. I am not necessarily one of those, though I was only an eyewitness. As a matter of fact, this news was received in a mixed manner for me, renewing pain and offering peace at the same time. I wrote about on my blog today. http://wallstreetgreek.blogspot.com/2011/05/9-11-eyewitness-osama-bin-laden-death.html

Kristen, I just wanted to let you know that my heart is with you, and your daughter. Frankly, while I am no stranger to loss, I cannot imagine what these ten years must have been like for you with that empty chair in your home. Please know that I am grateful for who you are, and how you have transmuted your loss into life. Somehow, I suspect, your husband would be so very proud of you both. All blessings your way, including that of closure. With respect, Cara

I think that $1 Million reward to go to these brave soldiers and Seals that did it. To me that is only fair, they risked their lives to take out one of the biggest scums on earth. Give it to them !!!!

Thank you for the reminder that this isn't about politics, but rather it's about the coldblooded murder of our fellow citizens...it's so good to at last know that this murderer has been brought to justice and that he will never again take another life.

My thoughts and best wishes go out to you and your daughter, be assured, you and yours are not forgotten.

Would you support the notion of bringing home our troops so we can rebuild America? We are near bankrupted by the most expensive assassination in history.
My Niece and Nephew face a future with no Medicare, Medicaid, pensions, and if they have to buy healthcare with no public option...let's say it costs us 32k for 2011 and that's excluding medicine and doctors visits.
I'm glad for those who need closure but I do not like what our nation has become for the majority. Unless you earn above 250k a year our future is dreadful and one designed by al Qaeda to haunt us.

Sorry. I mean no offense. I think back to 2001 and I could afford to live, now I'm hanging on and travel has become a humiliation.

God bless you, your child, and all who continue to suffer from the horrific acts of Bin Laden and those who followed him. I assure you that the majority of Americans who witnessed the events on 9/11 will never forget them, and will never forget either the victims or the heroes of that day.

Your comment that justice, although not swift is sweet puts the lives taken at the forefront of this mission. It brings tears to my eyes.

I am so sorry. A loss like yours can never be regained or made fair, only vindicated. I am glad you at that, at last. Peace be upon you.

Why do I have such a knot in my stomach? It wouldn't be the 1st time Bin Laden was "killed". Why burial at sea so fast? What will the repercussions be if it's true or even if it's not true?

For Mrs. Breitweiser, and all the many families and friends who lost loved ones, I so hope it is true, and I so hope it will decrease the violence in the world, rather than escalate it.

Yes, me too. I feel like possibly some manipulation might be afoot.... I am not really on-board with the 3-Minute Hate. And I don't feel personally safer with this one guy taken out, if out he is. There are always more vermon to take his place and possibly seeking revenge now.

Sorry for this lady's loss, tho'. I will never forget that day.

Even  when Hitler died there were some people like you who felt the same. They felt we  shouldn't have bothered and just left him alone.
02:16 PM on 05/02/2011
All of us rejoice at the news---you, and others like you who have suffered personally, must be truly elated. God bless you and your lost loved husband. All Americans, and indeed the world, has reason to smile today.
02:06 PM on 05/02/2011
God bless america for killing people? God bless america for being so riotous? LOL

Yup, still the same old ignorant christian ranting.

God didn't do any of this. Humans did. Let's all continue with this back and forth burning each other and killing each other. We deserve the pain we get. We are not gods special children, we are just children. It's sad that America is REALLY good at making us all look so damn innocent and noble. Let the war machine rage on! Revenge in the guise of justice, control in the guise of reality.

Baaa Baaa sheep. Believe what we tell you. Were the good guys.

i understand that everyone feels so much better with this crazy man being dead, but always playing the devils advocate, i must ask, and no negativity meant, but how can we bring peace to the world by killing people? go to war to bring peace? it just doesnt make sense. peace cannot be bought nor can it be enforced.

The tragedy of 9/11 can never be given any sort of justification from any standpoint. But it is astounding that no one ever looks at the why of it. And what our policies have provoked , We have over and over again made horrific, destructive choices against our enemies and we have justified them over and over again.

Not really. It's because we never had that conversation and people told us "not the right time to discuss this" that we squandered our resources and reputation on the last adventures of the last 10 years. So yeah, it's time to talk about it. It's ALWAYS time to reflect on what we do wrong and how we can improve.

Great that Osama is out of the picture....but we got some major crap to clean up at home.

Exactly - rejoicing of the killing of one guy responsible - but not even mentioning all the other people that are at the root of the problem: It is hypocrisy. It's always easy to blame that one single guy far far away.
And I find it absolutely fine to say that here.
