'51/50': 51 Dates In 50 Weeks (PHOTOS)

Posted: 09/21/10 08:04 AM ET

I had just turned thirty. I was working as a secretary. And more often than not, I would leave work, go to the gym, and retire to my bed to watch CSI reruns while eating ice cream sandwiches... alone. I knew this was not supposed to be my life. Something had to change. So I decided I would give fate the middle finger, I would go on 51 dates in 50 weeks, and I would change my life. Welcome to 51/50: The Magical Adventures of a Single Life (Soft Skull Press, $15.95) - using online personals, a sympathetic boss, a magical healer, and good old fashioned blind dates arranged by friends, I embarked on a whirlwind romantic, personal, and spiritual quest. Because though I went looking for a man, I found out just how magical life can be when you actually get out there and start living it.

WHO'S THAT GIRL?

How it began... I was a single 30-year old secretary with one year of sobriety and a cigarette still dangling from my lips when I decided to go on 51 dates in 50 weeks in order to find the perfect man...

I find it hard to imagine that this young, attractive, and very outgoing individual has any trouble finding love. Unless she was not applying herself at all this should be a normal, non-literary worthy 'adventure.' Hit up match.com or something if its really 'that hard'. And you really find that you need to put the price of your book on here too? Im sure we can all figure that out on Amazon.

I'm getting sick of all this self-absorbed BS about single 30-somethings going on whimsical journeys looking for, if not exactly love, some type of deeper understanding of the self. This is just a bunch of bourgeois myth peddling that a woman can't truly be in her element without the proper man, that life isn't quite worth living without one. Chit like this ignores the larger cultural forces behind the malaise that we all tend to feel, the stuff of existence that, in this country, is far from limited to quaint little debutantes that assume other people thrive on what they do.

Based on the photos, it looks as though she snaps.

"Ya gotta have a gimmick, if ya want to get ahead", Ros Russell from "Gypsy". First the blog, then the movie. Give Drew Barrymore a call.

Romance is great :)
But that's not american women's problem...hopefully you can inspire and incite to action though. Texas women are cool too :D

Congratulations on the publication of your book. I'm glad that you had the opportunity to heal your relationship with your father. Good luck.
