The follow are four things that the Obama campaign couldn't resist doing to anger Clinton supporters, supporters that Sen. Obama needs in the general election if -- if -- he is the nominee.
1. Couldn't resist waiting one day after Sen. Clinton won West Virginia by 41 points to announce John Edwards endorsement.
2. Couldn't resist waiting to win majority of ALL delegates (not just pledged delegates) to do victory lap speech in Iowa the night Hillary won Kentucky by 36 points.
3. Couldn't resist waiting to win majority of all delegates to announce Jim Johnson as VP search committee head -- the first candidate in my memory ever to do so while his chief opponent is still fighting for nomination -- and winning in last primary in crucial border state by 36 points (Kentucky).
What's the rush?
Obama wouldn't confirm or deny the that Mr. Johnson has been appointed to head the VP search effort. That makes many Clinton supporters feel uneasy about Senator Obama.
4. Couldn't resist listing Bill Richardson as under consideration for Veep - the one Red Flag name that infuriates even moderate Clinton supporters the most -- not because he chose to endorse Sen. Obama, but the way he did it, i.e., his inability to avoid making negative comments about Sen. Clinton while doing so -- another person who sometimes can't resist the temptation of not being gracious when he should be, a great disappointment to many of his former close friends from the Clinton camp and which will not be forgotten.

Sorry Lanny,
Seems to me that these are good examples of how to run a successful campaign. Hillary supporters like yourself have been trying unsuccessfully to tarnish and beat back Mr. Obama since Iowa and to his credit he has survived and even flourished in the attacks. Look at your long list of posts against Obama. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Get a clue and get over it. It will be Obama vs. McCain for the general election. Which side are you on?
Lanny, you are a sore loser. There is nothing Obama did to offend Hillary. He has been more than accomodating; more than considerate. You and the likes of you in the Clinton camp has campaigned dirty, used the lowest and dirtiest types of smears but to no avail. Admit it, Obama bested you. He had game and he won square. He beat the machine and the establishment. So, lick your wounds and move on.
Give it a rest Lanny. You should be talking to Mrs. Clinton and not us.
Want to see the "list" of shit that your campaign did to piss US off?
Mr. Davis, you are being illogical.
You ask of Obama for that which you would not expect from Senator Clinton. The Clintons themselves quoted Truman and said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen." If Senator Clinton was in Obama's position, she would consider it weak and unwise to be "nice" to her opponent; she would consider that making use of every edge she had to be nothing but common sense.
Obama is running a presidential campaign for heavens sake! Do you really expect him not to maximize any advantages he has with momentum, with (for the moment) the press, and with superdelegate endorsements, for worry about his opponent's feelings? It would be political malpractice if he chose to discard the tools that he has earned the right to use. It's time to get real.
Ok. So now I want you, Lanny Davis to lay out how you are going to unite this party. Lanny Davis, I want you to tell us how you are going to unite us to beat the Republicans in the fall.
I am tired of you and the outrage that this entitled campaign has been running. You can't have it both ways. Is she a victim or is she a skilled politician that can take the heat of politics even when she is losing?
You can take this as far as you would like, but at some point you just show that the end justifies the means. Is that what you are saying? Because this is what the Republicans said to us in 2000. Is that what you mean?? Whatever it takes, no matter what it does to us as a nation. You have some complicity in this and I will hold you responsible for it. I will remember you and the honor, or lack thereof, that you are exhibiting in this process.
Lanny!!! Make Hillary Clinton apologize to the American electorate for bringing up the spectre of assassination. People are STILL upset over this.
That is all we ask. For her to apologize for her mistake.
You forget parkjung, this was not a mistake.
Yes it was a mistake -- on a number of levels -- but those details aren't important right now.
Get over it! Bill Richardson doesn't owe the Clinton's anything!!! He did his job under the Clinton administration (very well I might add) and his free to make his own choice. Uh, it;s a free country isn't it?
I'd list this article as one of the many things the Clinton campaign couldn't resist doing to anger and alienate voters who felt good about the Clintons at the beginning of the campaign.
...and apparently Clinton supporters just can't resist throwing a tantrum when their candidate loses - fairly, and squarely, so to speak.
Clinton and her supporters can't have it both ways. Either this is a political campaign where political moves (like pulling out the big guns after a BIG loss) are quid pro quo, or Clinton is just a little weak woman who needs to be handled with kid gloves and whose supporters need to be preened and coddled. Clinton herself seems to want this to be a real political campaign, hence her "if you can't stand the heat..." comment, so she AND her supporters need to stop taking offense at these rather conservative (as in, traditional, not Republican) political moves.
Senator Obama will be a first in many ways; starting a VP search before he officially closes the nomination, will just be one of them. Thanks Senator Obama, you showed enough respect and restraint with Hillary Clinton. We wanted you to take off the gloves a while ago. She truly deserves it!
I believe he has shown her a great deal of restraint for the good of the party and the nation. And he is now moving forward for the same. It isn't personal.
Why should Senator Obama have waited, so that Hillary Clinton and her gang i.e. you, could control the narrative??!?!?!? Hell no; he did what ALL his supporters wanted him to do. Clinton would have done 10 times worse and in a less classy manner.
You and the Clintons are IRRELEVANT, please go awaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
This is my favorite advice from Obama people: "please go away".
I would like to see Hillary go away and take all of us Hillary supporters, and her endorsement,
with her. Go away all the way to the McCain camp.
Johnnn,
Most of you all are reagan democrats, so yes, please go awaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
I assume you aware of the fact that policywise there is very little difference between Obama and Clinton. If this is the case, then by abandoning the Democratic party for McCain, you would be abandoning what Hillary stood for.
Am I right?
Or do you honestly think that McCain is closer on the issues to Clinton? Do you care about what Hillary stood for?
