Larry Miller was named President and Alternate Governor of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers in June 2007. As President of the Trail Blazers, he is responsible for all aspects of the organization’s portfolio, including all team business and basketball activities, as well as operations of the Rose Quarter. Miller reports to Vulcan Sports and Entertainment CEO Tod Leiweke.

Having held executive positions with some of Oregon’s most recognizable brands, Miller has earned a reputation as an inspirational leader and someone who understands how to build premium businesses by establishing strong connections throughout the community.

Upon joining the Trail Blazers, Miller’s stated goal was to make the Trail Blazers “the most respected sports and entertainment brand in the world.” Under his watch, the brand has flourished. The Trail Blazers have assembled one of the league's most talented teams, creating a long-term opportunity to compete annually for an NBA Championship. On the business front, the team has sold out 109 straight games [as of 4/1/10} and been among the NBA’s top performing teams in game attendance, season ticket renewal rate and new business in each of the past two seasons.

The Trail Blazers were the 2008 recipient of the University of Massachusetts’ Turnkey PRISM Award recognizing excellence and innovation in sport franchise management. In 2009, the Trail Blazers were the first NBA team to stream games locally over the internet. In January 2010, the team’s arena, the Rose Garden, became the first major professional sports venue to achieve LEED Gold Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Prior to joining the Trail Blazers, Miller served as Vice President and General Manager of Nike Basketball where he was in charge of building strategies and executing plans that centered on the Jordan Brand, Nike Basketball, and Converse. He was responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the Jordan Brand where he earned an exceptional track record for growing the Brand and setting the standard for athletic luxury footwear. His experience provided strong leadership for Nike’s global category growth in basketball.

As President of Jordan Brand from 1999-2006, Miller led the brand through a period of strong growth as it expanded such product offerings as Women’s apparel. He helped the division grow its portfolio of Team Jordan athletes and saw the Air Jordan Brand celebrate its 20th anniversary. The Jordan Brand had a continued growth in revenue during Miller’s tenure and continues to have strong momentum. He originally joined the Nike team as Vice President of the U.S. Apparel division in 1997.

Before joining Nike, Miller served as President, Executive Vice President and Controller for Jantzen, Inc. He has also served as a Manager for Kraft General Foods, Assistant Controller at Philadelphia Newspapers, Inc., and held various positions with Campbell Soup.

Miller makes Portland his home, and currently serves on the board of directors for Self Enhancement Inc. (“SEI”), the Oregon Business Council, Oregon Sports Authority, and is a member of the Portland Mayor’s Economic Development Cabinet, the NBA’s Team Advisory Committee, and the NBA’s Labor Relations Committee. He is a passionate advocate for education and mentorship and was previously involved with the Urban League and Junior Achievement.

Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Temple University in 1982, and a master’s degree in business from LaSalle University in 1985. He graduated from the Urban League Leadership Institute in 1987.
