Laura Hutchings is the co-founder and President of Populus Sustainable Design Consulting, a national sustainable design consulting firm based in Boulder, Colorado. Populus specializes in high-performance and zero energy custom residential projects, municipal energy code consulting and building science education.

In addition, she is the co-chair of the Colorado Chapter of Efficiency First, a national nonprofit trade association that unites the home performance workforce, building product manufacturers and related businesses and organizations in the escalating fight against global warming and rising energy costs.

Prior to joining Populus, Laura practiced as a commercial litigator at an international law firm, where she was a member of the firm’s Sustainability Working Group and Renewable Energy Group. Laura was also an active member of the firm’s Green Steering Committee, creating and implementing corporate sustainability strategies that reduced the environmental impacts of the firm’s operations and buildings.

Laura graduated magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law in 2006 with an honors concentration in Civil Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution and summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 with a dual major in anthropology and English literature.
