After two weeks of painfully uncomfortable "X Factor" results shows -- replete with a child crying hysterically and death threats against Nicole Scherzinger -- this week's elimination seemed poised to offer a little satisfaction for the outraged fans of Rachel Crow and Drew. But did Marcus manage to escape the chopping block for a fourth week, with no "save me" performance to pull him back from the brink?
After 55 minutes of the typical shameless fillers and commercials, one colorful Florence and the Machine performance and one bass-heavy attempt from Scherzinger to imitate Steven Tyler (yes, she has a great voice, but I could've lived without her straining to sound raspy), we finally got to the results. So without further ado, the act sent home this week was ...
Better late than never, I guess. Although it was two weeks overdue -- since I actually was rooting for him against LeRoy Bell in his first "save me" sing-off -- justice was finally served and Marcus was eliminated from the competition. Too late to be any consolation to Drew or Rachel, of course, but still a no brainer. The sad part is, I actually think that Marcus is a more consistent performer than Chris Rene, but clearly there's no beating a sob story.
Marcus took the elimination with typical good grace and humor, reassuring his fans, "It's all good -- this is not the last time you will see Marcus Canty." He told his family to stop crying at home, and remarked that he gave the competition his all, so he felt satisfied. I can't imagine that L.A. Reid wouldn't support him with a record deal after the dust has settled, so I'm sure we'll see him at the bottom of a chart or two very soon.
That means our final three contestants are Josh Krajcik, Melanie Amaro and Chris Rene. Who do you think will emerge triumphant as the first ever USA champion of "The X Factor"? And did you enjoy Simon's attempt at critiquing Nicole's performance in Nicole's style as much as I did? "God is smiling on you, life is a waterfall and you are the ultimate rainbow" is going to be my new go-to compliment. Share your reactions below.Â

If she had been competing against *any* one of the X-Factor's contestants, she would have been eliminated weeks ago. Most assuredly, if she'd been competing with Rachel Crow, she's the one who would have been sent home. What a non-talent phoney.
He is fun unique and appeals to many different age groups. Melanie we have seen so many times before she is nothing but a great singer which we have plenty of, Josh is very unique and can sing but not really an entertainer so his concerts wouldn't make much.
Chris on the other hand, will get you out of your seat make you cry rock sway smile and bop your head all none song. Once they do a little bit of editing to his voice he will sell. Look at the industry today, what is really out there? Unique voices of people who really can't sing.
You are right about Chris, because he's not the best singer, but is the best entertainer of the three.
With that kind of money coming in all at once and contracts/pressures heavy at first...I'd guess if he won he'd go early like Joplin, Hendrix, Cobain, et al.
doesn't matter who wins, both are winners and will have great careers
I am a Melanie fan. She is the Mariah/Whitney/Celine of her generation. I love Josh, his voice, his passion. I also love Chris Rene, he has a very melodic and sweet voice and he is very original. I hope Melanie wins but I would be happy with any of the three, they are all amazing.
It is about the total package and only a few of them on the show had the total package and one of them was Marcus Canty.
How can you possibly say nay of the three contestants besides Chris Renee have the total package? Chris Renee is the closest to it besides the fact he cannot sing. However, once they edit and do all of that cool stuff they do in music, he will sell hits. I know a variety of people who listen to him now from 50 down to 12.
What are you people not getting about this show? It is not only about your voice? I think all of you awful critics should try to watch the voice. You will be more pleased and find what you are looking for.
I don't understand why they don't get it.
.
Simon was on a vendictive mission to ensure his departure by his vinimous comments.
.
It was as if he was seeking revenge for his two little wonder girls being sent home after facing Marcus in the bottom two.
.
Simon wields such influence, that even if Marcus would have pulled a great proformance out of the hat, Simon would have crushed him with his words.
.
.You saw all the praise he bestowed upon Chris... Undeserved, I might add - but only to raise stark contrast to the anti-praise he gave Marcus.
.
Chris should have been sent home a bit ago, also...
.
He does not have the X Factor and cannot sing, though he is talented at what he does (rap/sing writer.
.
Last night when Marcus went home- Chris Rene was the worst.
Its almost as though Rene gets points for being sober and clean and not for his singing. I would give him credit for his original song which was beautiful the week before. I didnt find any of Rene's performances inspiring this week. I have always been a Marcus fan and he was much better than Drew who quite frankly is forgettable. I only remembered her because you brought her up in your article. I am now rooting for Melanie- excellent performance with feel good.
