The X Factor Results Show: Who Got Eliminated & Top Three Revealed

Posted: 12/15/11 09:26 PM ET

After two weeks of painfully uncomfortable "X Factor" results shows -- replete with a child crying hysterically and death threats against Nicole Scherzinger -- this week's elimination seemed poised to offer a little satisfaction for the outraged fans of Rachel Crow and Drew. But did Marcus manage to escape the chopping block for a fourth week, with no "save me" performance to pull him back from the brink?

After 55 minutes of the typical shameless fillers and commercials, one colorful Florence and the Machine performance and one bass-heavy attempt from Scherzinger to imitate Steven Tyler (yes, she has a great voice, but I could've lived without her straining to sound raspy), we finally got to the results. So without further ado, the act sent home this week was ...

Marcus Canty.

Better late than never, I guess. Although it was two weeks overdue -- since I actually was rooting for him against LeRoy Bell in his first "save me" sing-off -- justice was finally served and Marcus was eliminated from the competition. Too late to be any consolation to Drew or Rachel, of course, but still a no brainer. The sad part is, I actually think that Marcus is a more consistent performer than Chris Rene, but clearly there's no beating a sob story.

Marcus took the elimination with typical good grace and humor, reassuring his fans, "It's all good -- this is not the last time you will see Marcus Canty." He told his family to stop crying at home, and remarked that he gave the competition his all, so he felt satisfied. I can't imagine that L.A. Reid wouldn't support him with a record deal after the dust has settled, so I'm sure we'll see him at the bottom of a chart or two very soon.

That means our final three contestants are Josh Krajcik, Melanie Amaro and Chris Rene. Who do you think will emerge triumphant as the first ever USA champion of "The X Factor"? And did you enjoy Simon's attempt at critiquing Nicole's performance in Nicole's style as much as I did? "God is smiling on you, life is a waterfall and you are the ultimate rainbow" is going to be my new go-to compliment. Share your reactions below.

So sad to see Marcus go, he was one of my faves. Rachel's reaction may have them rethink the age requirements. Kids can't handled that type of rejection. My prediction for the win...Melanie Amaro.

good luck to chris rene! he inspires me and is the only concert i would attend out of the three. he is a very talented song writer, singer, and musician. just because he doesnt have the best voice doesnt mean he wont sell the most records. i am voting for him so much wednesday! CHRIS RENE ALL THE WAY!!!!

Marcus handled himself very well during this entire competition, but, it was time for him to go. He doesn't need to win to be successful. At this point this show seems less a competition and more a popularity contest anyway. I think based on that Chris Renee will win.

IMO, Nicole had a nerve "singing" (mostly trying to promote her new album/cd) on last night's show. I would never attend her concerts or buy even one of her cd's. Nicole singing did nothing for me, totally uninspiring.

If she had been competing against *any* one of the X-Factor's contestants, she would have been eliminated weeks ago. Most assuredly, if she'd been competing with Rachel Crow, she's the one who would have been sent home. What a non-talent phoney.

Nichole needs to go. They made a big mistake not keeping Cheryl.

I would be a Melanie fan if this was The Voice and I would be a Josh fan if this was American Idol but because its not I honestly feel in my heart that Chris would make more sales then all of them.

He is fun unique and appeals to many different age groups. Melanie we have seen so many times before she is nothing but a great singer which we have plenty of, Josh is very unique and can sing but not really an entertainer so his concerts wouldn't make much.

Chris on the other hand, will get you out of your seat make you cry rock sway smile and bop your head all none song. Once they do a little bit of editing to his voice he will sell. Look at the industry today, what is really out there? Unique voices of people who really can't sing.

jscholar1,

You are right about Chris, because he's not the best singer, but is the best entertainer of the three.

With that kind of money coming in all at once and contracts/pressures heavy at first...I'd guess if he won he'd go early like Joplin, Hendrix, Cobain, et al.

i dvr the program and zip through to Josh and Melanie and save 80 minutes that way.

doesn't matter who wins, both are winners and will have great careers

I love Simon. He is sooo funny! Last night's comment from Nicole's chair was hilarious. Speaking of Nicole, I liked her at the beginning of the series but then she started to act like Paula and over dramatize and now I find her totally fake. Paula can sound kooky and it is funny because it is Paula and she's always been like that, but on Nicole it sounds fabricated.

I am a Melanie fan. She is the Mariah/Whitney/Celine of her generation. I love Josh, his voice, his passion. I also love Chris Rene, he has a very melodic and sweet voice and he is very original. I hope Melanie wins but I would be happy with any of the three, they are all amazing.

The whole point of the show is to find the one person out of thousands who has "it". "It" is the ability to draw in crowds of people who want to sit for 75 minutes and listen to every note they sing. There are only two in this group who have that: Josh and Melanie. And while Melanie has a near perfect voice, her performances have grown to be repetitious in that we know the type of songs she's going to sing. She isn't as 'animated' on stage as I personally think she should / could be - and her most lively performance that really got things moving was when she 'felt' what she was singing - the week she sang the gospel song. Josh, on the other hand, can sing virtually anything and add his own style, personality, voice, and heart to it. I don't think that anyone sitting in his concert audience would ever be bored. I lean towards Josh winning over Melanie for that distinction, but either of those two are deserving.
11:42 AM on 12/16/2011
I agree with what you are saying, except, I have already heard many artists like Melanie before...and the difference is that they don't stand there and become stationary, they do more than what she does. Yeah we can ooh and aaah at her voice because she has the best voice. The industry has changed and I don't think the people who will buy tickets for Melanie will be as much as someone as Josh or even Chris Rene who are versatile and are true performers and not just singers.
04:34 PM on 12/16/2011
Agree totally, there is too many Malanies out there, its gotten a little boring. It's been a while since I heard someone who can sing like Josh, his voice just takes you somewhere else, and that's what I have been hungry for.

Right, Left....Wrong

As long as it is one of these two, it really does not matter. If Chris wins, this show becomes AI which clearly makes sure to fix the results. None of these three really have a great stage presence yet but I could see Josh get there with the comfort of his own band. The thing that bothers me most is these shows are becoming the way for a singer to make it and I can see this causing local bands to give in to the "short cut" way to make it big. This would mean no more Doors, U2, REM......bands of meaning. No matter, I have enjoyed this show even though the only reason I have watched was because my wife has given me no choice lol!

Commercial BS aside from these shows that often focus more on the hosts than the contestants, what I get genuine pleasure out of is when a total nobody out or nowhere, with an incredible story shows up with true star talent...and because of the show, they get a break. We all love great entertainers. There haven't been many, but it is they who make it fun for me. And I rarely watch any of those tv shows.
09:04 AM on 12/16/2011
HELLO PEOPLE. You guys are missing the purpose of this show. IT IS THE X FACTOR not the voice. They are looking for the total package. Just because one may stick out in one area if they have nothing else then they don't deserve to win.
It is about the total package and only a few of them on the show had the total package and one of them was Marcus Canty.
How can you possibly say nay of the three contestants besides Chris Renee have the total package? Chris Renee is the closest to it besides the fact he cannot sing. However, once they edit and do all of that cool stuff they do in music, he will sell hits. I know a variety of people who listen to him now from 50 down to 12.
What are you people not getting about this show? It is not only about your voice? I think all of you awful critics should try to watch the voice. You will be more pleased and find what you are looking for.
11:03 AM on 12/16/2011
I totally agree with you. And the issue is that people are thinking this is a show like The Voice or American Idol, which it is not. It is similar but different on what the shwo is actually looking for. Once everyone understands what you are saying and what I believe the show to be, then the discussions on this board will be a lot better and more informed.
11:31 AM on 12/16/2011
Well said. These people on the discussion board are looking for the best singer and that is not what it is about. First you must understand the show and its purpose before you say such ignorant comments. They just simply have no clue.
I don't understand why they don't get it.

Chris is kind of the male Britney Spears...he cannot sing so he will be doing lipsync on stage and auto tune for recording. No thanks. I understand why people like him but I think his story has taken over his lack of talent to get him votes.
01:56 PM on 12/16/2011
So who do you suggest wins?
09:02 AM on 12/16/2011
It may have been time for Marcus to go BUT...
.
Simon was on a vendictive mission to ensure his departure by his vinimous comments.
.
It was as if he was seeking revenge for his two little wonder girls being sent home after facing Marcus in the bottom two.
.
Simon wields such influence, that even if Marcus would have pulled a great proformance out of the hat, Simon would have crushed him with his words.
.
.You saw all the praise he bestowed upon Chris... Undeserved, I might add - but only to raise stark contrast to the anti-praise he gave Marcus.
.
Chris should have been sent home a bit ago, also...
.
He does not have the X Factor and cannot sing, though he is talented at what he does (rap/sing writer.
.

I agree with everything except the part of the X-Factor...he has it more so than Melanie. Melanie's style has already existed and therefore she is not "it", she is just familiar. I am not even a Rene fan but will give him his due.
03:23 PM on 12/16/2011
I agree with you. Chris Renee is the unique one, certainly not the most talented.

Its interesting that the week when Rachel went home- Josh was the worst.
Last night when Marcus went home- Chris Rene was the worst.
Its almost as though Rene gets points for being sober and clean and not for his singing. I would give him credit for his original song which was beautiful the week before. I didnt find any of Rene's performances inspiring this week. I have always been a Marcus fan and he was much better than Drew who quite frankly is forgettable. I only remembered her because you brought her up in your article. I am now rooting for Melanie- excellent performance with feel good.

melanie seems to be quite dishonest , dont u think? i mean....liein to the audience about her personality and returning with an accent.....thats not right. chris has been honestly, keeping it real , even when its humiliating. he deserve that money. its obvious this show is not about talent.

Listen, I am from the islands as well. I know what it is like to spend a lot of time, toning down your accent so people can understand you. However, when I am excited, when I am mad (pissed off mad), during the throes of passion- the island girl comes out. Though my native tongue is english most americans dont understand the accent as they say it is sing songy and my dialect is difficult. So I try my best to tone it down, but there are times when you are so overcome with raw emotion that only can come out, only you can be present. If she were talking like an islander all the time- you probably would not have understood her and those anti-immigration people were not going to vote for her and then there would be others who would rally to kick her off the show for not being a real american. The girl is great and she has got talent and for once, I wish people would go for talent and not the sob stories or the sex scandals or the anything else we give people fame for nowadays.

I have had neighbors whose origins were from the islands. Though they were raised here their household was one in which both their native and our language was spoken. You would never have known of their origin had it not been for the times when the young mother who was born and bred right here would get excited or upset about something and then that "something" would turn into "suhm-ting", lol. Then it would be difficult to understand her because the "upset" or "excited" patois is not always easy to decipher to the untrained ear. It does have quite a nice ring to it, though. She is not being dishonest. She is being exactly who she is.

I thought Simon was hysterical. L.A. Read's criticism of Josh's second performance solidified my opinion that Read only understands bubblegum performance with lots of T&A.
