10 LGBT Predictions for 2012

Posted: 12/27/11 08:34 PM ET

December is usually a slow month for news. As such, it's compulsory for journalists during this month to do one of two things: either write an article summing up the main events of the year almost gone, or write a forward-looking piece about the year to come. 2011 was a great year for the LGBT community, but I think 2012 is going to be even better. Here are my LGBT predictions for 2012.

Madonna Joins Twitter

Madonna is currently the most famous person in the world not to have a Twitter account. That will change in 2012. The Material Girl has her 12th studio album coming out in spring, the first single from which will be released in February. Her Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show will provide a burst of publicity for her, but a Twitter presence is what she really needs to galvanize her fan-base. By the end of the year she'll have more followers than Perez Hilton, but fewer, for now, at least, than Lady Gaga. A huge number of those Twitter followers will be gay men. Love the predictions. Sure hope you know something I don"t know which I"m sure you do. That would make for a very Happy New Year well almost for all.

The "Twilight" revelation? My guess is Kristen Stewart.

Not many of those sparked my interest - mostly aimed at gay men (as usual, thanks HuffPost), but I am intrigued at the idea of a cast member from Twilight coming out because I have always thought Kristen Stewart was a lesbian, or could be. If it's not her, I pray it's Robert because that would just be hilarious to me! To think of all the girls who would literally cry over him and scream and try to get his attention and it was their brothers whose attention Robert wanted all along... Sorry I do have a warped sense of humor!

I think it will be Kristen Stewart too. Her mannerisms are very much like Jody Fosters.

Maddonna Cicone has always been strait. So has Barack Obama. What does this have to do with GLBT people?

Uh, Madonna is bisexual. She declared herself bisexual in an interview in the Advocate. Don't know how active she is these days, but that's the story.

My prediction for 2012:

We will look back at 2011 and see that the biggest boost to the LGBT community was the outspoken homophobia of the GOP presidential contenders whose blatant bigotry and animated hate speech during their campaigns have repulsed fair-minded Americans, galvanized support for our community, and created strong new allies.
11:08 AM on 12/29/2011
The GOP has no plan to fix the economy. They're running on a platform of pure hatred.

They always have. But for some reason having a minors as a president had embolden them to be open and honest about how we all they have felt all along

Twitter or no Twitter, give it to me, Madonna, you wild woman!

It is unfortunate that Obama's chances for reelection depend almost solely on who the GOP nominee will be. He is far too moderate and kind-hearted to really do battle with those Republicans that want nothing more than his failure.

I agree that this election has only one issue at stake... SCOTUS. That is it and that is enough.

I have to disagree with you a little. Mr. Obama is more steely than people give him credit for being. Look at his decision to launch the raid on OBL, how cool he was that night at the White House Correspondent's Dinner. The guy is a poker player and knows how to keep his emotions in check, but he's not above playing hardball in politics(ask Alice Palmer). He's done it before, and with his Presidency on the line, expect him to pull out all the stops.

I do agree that a GOP win would be a disaster for the nation considering what would happen to the Supreme Court.

I'm sure someone at Madonna Corp is interviewing people to Tweet for her.
(Which is not uncommon for some celebs... but to say SHE will be on Twitter...)

I like and agree with your predictions, sir. Of course, for DOMA repeal and ENDA passage, we need more than President Obama's re-election, we need to win back the House and increase majority in the Senate, preferably sans bluedogs. So let's get on with that: let's ROCK THE VOTE 2012!!!

Obama will win, that's the plan. The Gop has no intention of assuming control or responsibility for the mess it has created. Meanwhile the GOP will maintain control of the house and also take control of the senate and will easilly override presidential vetos (should they need to). This will be the final phase of finishing off the middle class and probably expanding the war machine to engage in massive military globalisation. The Czarist regime structure with a small ruling elite, and controlling Oligharchy, with a massive peasant class is their ultimate goal and will be fully on it's way to fruition in 2013.

I will never be a Republican

With all of the crap the GOP has pulled in the past 3 years, who is going to vote for them?

There are enough Dems to unseat the house and the senate if Dems get off their butts and vote.

We don't need a new president, we need a new congress.
