Now that the deck chairs on the good ship Hillary have been rearranged, leaving Senator Clinton with a presidential campaign manager who has never managed a campaign, Hillary should forget about winning.
Hillary should rest her voice, kick back and watch a couple hours of cable news shout shows, where at any given moment some pundit will happily explain why her campaign is doomed. She should believe every negative word.
Hillary probably won't sleep well after that. In the darkness, she should face her worst fear--losing. She shouldn't just face it, she should embrace it as fact, she should believe it's all over, the campaign is hopeless, she's going to be a mere senator for the rest of her life.
When she goes out on the campaign stage the next day, the audience will see a new Hillary, a Hillary they've never seen before, the Hillary who knows she's going to lose. I've seen that Hillary once before--at her final rally in New Hampshire the night before she (and all of us in the press gallery) knew she was going to lose. It was her best ever performance on a campaign stage. She was working without a script, without Teleprompters, moving freely with a hand-held mic and demonstrating a Sinatra-like command of the stage and the audience. The performance came more from her heart than her head and it was the most accurate picture of Hillary Clinton, the person, that she has delivered in the campaign.
The only way that person could emerge on stage was for Hillary to believe that she could not win in New Hampshire. The possibility of winning, the intense pressure of trying to win almost always tightens up candidates. Watching the stiff version of Bill Bradley run for president was very painful for those of us who know that the real Bill Bradley is wise, thoughtful, funny and an all-around great guy. Watching Hillary stiffen as a candidate is disappointing to those of us who know how relaxed, open, and warm she can be in private.
It's all up to Hillary now. Her husband has proven he can't win this thing for her. Chelsea's phone calls will not turn enough super delegates. Hillary's brand new, totally inexperienced campaign manager can't win it for her. The only person who can win this for Hillary is the real Hillary, the one she will let an audience see when she thinks she's got nothing left to lose. If Hillary could just forget about winning, she would actually have a much better chance of winning.

Geez Lawrence. Somebody must have pitched your comment to her because she did it and it worked; thi si the Hillary that most people want to see. She seemed unattached to the end result and "whole". Very presidential. Just how much it worked, we'll have to wait for the next primaries. I was very proud of her and I've been no fan of her until recently. Good job, Lawrence.
You know what this means right? You were actually right about something!
I know, I'm scared too! :-)
I like both Hillary and Barack. They both represent the Democratic Party and deserve the support of the party. I must admit I am sometimes puzzled when I hear people talk about the 90's and how good things were back then. We are in a new century, as a country we should be moving forward. I remember being in kindergarten and how much fun we had, but that was then and this is now. As much as I'd love to be five again.....
Thought the posts look pretty far afield, again.
Anyway, it looked like at the last of the debate, when she clearly wasn't landing the shots she threw to any devastating affect, she seemed to get it, and became more authentic and effective.
I think it's a shame that we still have a way to go to allow a woman to be as pointedly passionate in debate as men. I'm looking forward to voting for either candidate in the fall, and winning. That is still the bottom line of this affair.
Incidently - Barack Obama's set up for this campaign was by Clinton friends and main supporter? Vernon Jordan and a host of Clinton friends and supporters.
Yes, Vernon (Akin-Gump) Jordan William Daley and a number Clinton "faithful" are no longer faithful. John Lewis defecting won't be a surprise either.
Obama pays over 150 professional campaign personnel who are currently arching on Texas.
Obama has the machine - Clinton has a carolla.
If/when Obama whens the nomination - I won't vote for Obama or McCain.
I will support Hillary Clinton. I lived through the Eisenhower, JFK, Nixon, Johnson, Carter, Ford,Clinton administrations. By far..
on a larger scale - the Clinton era was the better. Eisenhower did some great things as well. I have a hard time seeing a guy in control of this nation thats a)being controlled by The Daley Machine of Chicago(which he is. Obama endorsed Chicago Mayor Daley for his term - by gaining him the "black votes" in turn Daley finance and endorse him for the Presidency
Ok he was Community Organizer - so are social workers;Should a social worker be president too? He's 47 yrs old - 20 yrs of community service - a few years at a then off to the Senate where he didn't vote or "stand" for anything.
I have more work exxperiece than Mr. Obama and fear we " seen his "Dick Cheney" yet. He's essentially another Geo Bush. Great ideas but empty headed.
It is not constructive to demand any excuses,appologies or explanations from
Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Upon her withdrawal, let us make a place for
her as a major voice and powerful force in
our common Democratic efforts:
l. Deat John McCain
2. Elect more Democratic Senators
3. Elect more Democratic Members of
the House of Representatives.
The withdrawal of John Edwards in grace and dignity should show us how we must all combine.
Edwards is still a major voice for the
Democratic Party, still passionate, still focused, working on behalf of the DCCC to
expand the Democratic majority for Speaker
Nancy Pelosi.
A Clinton does not embrace defeat, because that would belie to themselves their sole purpose for running: winning. That is why we are reading about them attempting to seat illegitimate MI and FL delegates, pleading with superdelegates to reverse the will of millions of voters, dismissing the millions of votes cast in the last ten states as "irrelevant", etc. This election has *nothing* to do with her connecting with voters. The Clintons wouldn't have it any other way.
so true. Read this, Hillary. Still pulling for you. BPhillips
Regarding the question of experience: Mrs. Clinton's executive experience amounts to running her campaigns (two Senate races, 1 Presidential), the vicarious experience as First Lady, and the healthcare reform commission. Mr. Obama's includes his advocacy work in Illinois, state legislative races, one Senate race, and the Presidential race.
If others can point to other executive experiences on the part of either, I'd love to hear about it. Based upon the above, I don't see much difference; however, Mr. Obama's does appear to have used his executive authority to more success. His political races were more competitive than Mrs. Clinton's and successful. Mr. Obama's advocacy work scored some successes (admittedly in a small-scale endeavor), and Mrs. Clinton's healthcare reform efforts failed. Lastly, Mr. Obama's management of his presidential campaign has thus far been scintillating while Mrs. Clinton's has sputtered.
That's my opinion. I like both candidates and will enthusiastically support the eventual Democratic nominee, whichever makes history.
Let's keep our eyes on the prize: overthrow of ALL segments of the 'publican regime in 2008. I want to see them relegated to a permanent minority in politics and to the annals of failure where they belong -- beginning at least with "Tricky Dick" Nixon, through "asleep in the saddle" Reagan, "Burn My Lips" George I, and ending with Mad King George II, the worst president in US history.
I don't understand why so many rich powerful white men running corporations, news media, and tv political pundits are so afraid of Hillary being president. Are they afraid after slamming her with every conceivable destructive trick they can muster to make her look bad in the press, misquotes, misrepresenting her positions, and out right lying about her personally and politically, that she might pay them back as president???? Hmmm! After all the dirty tricks the power machines have played on her, HELL YES, I'd be afraid, very afraid of deserved retribution ! With Hillary as president.
pantera, its not rich powerful white men that are scared of hillary, Its a good portion of women and blacks as well.
After all the dirty tricks the power machines have played on her---- please list, Hillary is more of dirty trickster
very afraid of deserved retribution --- anyone who is elected president doesn't get to fry and serve anybody, that would make them a dictator..
Maybe thats what you want. A power-hungry vengeful person who wants nothing except to win. Its pretty fascist to support a candidate so blindly
HAY, OHIO UAW WORKERS...
flodlite - VOTED FOR BILL CLINTON 2 TIMES AND AM VOTING FOR HILLARY CLINTON.
3 mistakes don't make a right.
Clinton actually supported NAFTA and WTO, Hilllary served obn Wal-Marts board... you know what that all means? THOUSANDS of jobs left America because of that family.
when we marched for equal rights 4 decades ago, women were dependent on their fathers until they became dependent on their husbands. Hillary's generation ( and mine) walked talked and worked so that our lives and the lives of our children would be better. This presidency means the successful culmination of a movement that started over 40 years ago.~~~~~~
This is the first generation of women to be self sufficient and independent and in positions of power. Hillary's election to POTUS sends a message to a watching world and it will only help to expand civil rights all over the world. A woman President will send a signal like no other.
~~~~~~~~~~
Hillary is the right woman and this is the right time.
To any readers who support Hillary, some of Obama posters on this website can be nasty at the same time they are naive. Hillary will not quit this race. We love that she is a fighter and will see this through to the end.
No more Gore, Kerry ceding the election. Hillary will stay and fight.
naturesway,
I disagree that Hillary will be the voice for all women. Just because she's a woman does not mean she will do right by women. SHe may be an example to women, but then again isn't that what she is already?
"it will only help to expand civil rights all over the world. A woman President will send a signal like no other" I would like to know what that signal is?
Or is this just some feminist rhetoric I'm reading?
A woman married to a former president is a depressing first. As lame-o centrist Democrats go, I'd prefer Nancy Pelosi even.
She is very smart and talented but she comes off as whiny and shrill: When she finishes saying something that arouses a cheer from the audience she raises her voice in an unpleasant and piercing manner. In addition, she used to portray herself as if the nomination were owed to her.
She is her own worst enemy, as most of us are but very true for her.
Bill's behavior was abominable and he should have kept his nose out. When he stated in an earlier interview (around Sept - Oct '07) this past fall that he was interested only in the "next election" (meaning the nomination election) and not the general election he foretold what he he was going to do - which was to engineer a nomination victory for his wife but he used methods which have and will turn off the non-Democratic electorate to the fall candidate. Remember, Democrats may have the registration edge (31% Dem to 29% GOP) but Democrats are not a majority and by turning off independents, the election is lost no matter if every Democrat votes. Also, the Congress will fall in such a debacle. He sacrificed the November election in order to secure the nomination. How totally selfish and stupid. Actually, it was just plain egotistical. Yes, his wife will be the first woman in history to get the nomination of a major party for the Presidency but we, the general public, are left with the McCain GOP bag.
By this hanging on she has split the Dem party and has turned independents away.
The tragedy is that her agenda is very good (as are all the Dems have been) and this will get lost when McCain wins.
Yes, I am very frustrated about this.
not if the justice dept. gets a hold of her & her assortment of criminal activity over the years = LENGHTY PRISON TERMS IF NOT THE DEATH PENALTY FOR CRIMES AMOUNTING TO TREASON...
check the assorted laundry list out at:
http://blo
it couldn't happen to her soon enough for being
such a wicked person & posing as a angel in disguise while doing it...
Sadly, anyone paying attention over the last few months can tell you, she's compromised too much of herself to have any "real stuff" to offer.
