John Edwards is a loser. He has won exactly two elections in his life and lost 31. Only one of his wins and all of his losses were in presidential primaries and caucuses. He remains perfectly positioned to continue to lose with a Kucinich-like consistency. Nothing but egomania keeps Edwards in the race now. All presidential candidates are egomaniacs but some of them have party status worth preserving that forces them to drop out when they hit the wall. A loser like Edwards has no status or dignity to lose. Campaigning and losing is his life. So, he will continue his simple-minded, losing campaign and deny Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton the one-on-one contest they deserve.
If John Edwards stays in the race, he might, in the end, become nothing other than the Southern white man who stood in the way of the black man. And for that, he would deserve a lifetime of liberal condemnation.
Maybe Edwards is already not a factor in the campaign because Edwards voters would split evenly between Senators Obama and Clinton if Edwards dropped out. But we'll never know unless Edwards does the right thing and gets out of the way of the only two candidates who have a chance to get the nomination.
The white male monopoly on the Democratic nomination has finally come to an end. Someone has to tell John Edwards.

O'Donnell got it wrong. As usual and thanks to a deeply flawed electoral system, the American voter is the real loser.
John Reid Edwards is the most hated by the corporate elite because they know he is a fighter for the people, he doesn't compromise, and he wins! Hillary and Obama equally represent the conservative wing of the Democratic Party but John Reid Edwards represents the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party (to quote a former beloved Governor of the Great State of Vermont and current Chair of the DNC).
John Edwards doesn't talk 'change' he lives it. The fact he is successful and prosperous and enjoys material wealth says nothing one way or the other about ability to serve. He had done more to help those without and with little in the past five years that most have in an entire lifetime whether they live in a pent house or a poor house. O'Donnell, again, your attack on JRE's Presidential run because of his personal, earned wealth is a red herring...a bogus non-issue...
Sorry but the DLC has done nothing beneficial for the United States of America, let alone the Democratic Party. Ms. Hillary is Chair of the "American Dream Act Initiative" granting full amnesty to people illegally living in this country....Mr. Barack Obama appears to embrace a President Carter foreign policy of failures by using as his foreign policy advisors Zbigniew Brezenski and son Mark. Wasn't ZB the guy that advised Carter to form the Mujuhadeen and use them as a weapons against the Soviets in Afghanistan, Russia's "Viet Nam"? He advocated US CIA training and arming of these 'islamofascists' today our troops fight against......
Johnny Reid Edwards has what it takes to be a great President for America.
I find much to like in John Edwards,it is hard not to admire his message. However,at this point, I suspect he is running for vice president. For some reason, he can't seem to capture the voter's imagination as Obama has, or scare them into voting for her, as Hillary does. I think he knows this, and is betting on Obama to get the nomination, and in some circles, he would be considered a good VP candidate.{maybe not by John Kerry, but I digress} Obama with the ability to inspire, and Edwards to fight the battle for health care and against special interest groups,is a ticket many independents could vote for. From there, it would be an easy path to the White House in the future. How exciting would it be to have the first African-American candidate pick a Southern white man as his running mate?Talk about a new era in American politics, long overdue, but much needed.
Obama is where he is because he is black, nothing more. He is woefully unequipped to be president. Hillary is where she is because she is a woman and because she is Bill“s wife, nothing more.
Of the three, Edwards looks best. Furthermore, dissing someone because he is a white male is as silly as voting for someone (or dissing them) because they are black or female.
If you ask me, all of these Idiots need to drop out and immediately turn over all of their campaign funds to AL GORE!!!
Then Volunteer to work for FREE on his campaign for the Rest of the Entire Campaign Cycle!!!
AL GORE IS THE ONLY TRUE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE THAT CAN WIN THIS ELECTION!!!
This isn't even good satire, but it's always nice to know the OLD Dems are steadfast in their resolve.
As long as Edwards picks up delegates, he strengthens his bargaining power with OBAMA at the Convention.
I think *that* gentlemans agreement will stay in place for as long as Obama and Clinton split about even in the primaries........if Clinton pulls ahead, Edwards will align w/Obama sooner.
THAT is why Edwards voters are showing their resolve.
It's the smoke filled room of my youth. Without the smoke..or mirrors.
John Edwards for President
There is a reason Edwards has been largely ignored or denigrated by America's corporately owned MSM - they see him as the biggest threat to begin to shift some power, money and dignity from the fat cats to the middle class and below
I have consistently seen polls that clearly show that Edwards is the democrat's best bet to win the White House no matter the opponent. But that story has hardly seen the light of day on mainstream media.
Of course they almost totally ignored the fact that he beat Hillary in Iowa as well.
That is all bad enough, but to have what are supposed to be progressive media types slamming Edwards and pushing Obama - well that makes me suspicious of their motives, and not optimistic, at least in the short term, about the direction of this nation.
With only six fewer delegate votes than Senator Clinton it is foolish to think that John Edwards should quit the race so early.
Speak for yourself! I'd like to see him win this election.
Oh stick it in your ear. All of you people who are sacrificing the country for the novelty of a black president deserve everyone's eternal contempt.
John Edwards has as much right to stay in this race as Obama. If Obama has the stuff to win, Edwards won't stop him.
Edwards lost NC pres. primary four years ago.
Edwards lost SC pres. primary four years ago.
Edwards sucked big time as a VP candidate.
Edwards couldn't carry coffee for Kerry.
If Edwards really wants to help the underprvileged, he should sell the 28,000 square foot house, buy a mosest place for himself and nice homes for 20 poor families.
Edwards is all talk - no do.
I think this post is one of the most ridiculous things ever uttered on this site.
I have a vote in the primary, and it is for John Edwards. The last time I checked, I got to vote for who I wanted.
Besides, why criticize the person who could well end up being Obama's running mate?
John Edwards is a WINNER.
Singlehandedly, he is putting forth progressive (and specific) positions on getting out of Iraq, getting better healthcare, and reducing the growing gap between the satisfied fat cat rich and the rest of us.
John Edward's positions are pushing everyone else in the Democratic field to the left. Where they can speak to the rest of us, and win this election.
John Edwards could be sitting pretty, with a huge income from a law firm, helping poor people fight against corporations. That he has chosen to fight for the broader spectrum of Americans with thoughtful policy positions is a credit to him.
Thanks t o John Edwards for staying in this race. For all of the Democratic candidates. And for the rest of us.
Hey Larry, what is this weakass jive, man? Loser? Now that is really astute and inspiring commentary. We should limit ideas and dialogue to the two anointed by the MSM, the DLC, corporations and super-rich? The MSM view (and that of their corporate masters) is that it is a "two person race"; they have been trying to totally ignore Edwards message of REAL CHANGE and not even mentioning him! Yours is an arrogant thoughtless position and comment and will only further empower the king makers of wealth and power!
John Edwards is articulating the REAL enemies of the vast majority of Americans and those who benefit from the status quo will do anything or hire anyone to end Edwards campaign and silence his message of REAL "hope" and "change"! Edwards is proposing an agenda to benefit ALL Americans including African Americans and women!
Between this bit of astonishing drivel and the Dog-Killer torturer Vick defense you are batting Zero.
Some detailed Edwards policy;

There are very good reasons to keep Edwards in the race and his home state of South Carolina should give him a win to assure just that; to keep an open varied dialogue that doesn't just endorse the status quo of the rich, and the possibility of a relatively open Convention where REAL change can be achieved, not just more of the same old in a new package. VERY disappointing Larry.
Edwards /Obama '08!
WOW! Speaking of egomania..you Mr O'Donnell need to seriously get over yourself.
John Edwards has grown a serious campaign raising the important message that corporations yield too much power and are not working to the benefit of the American people. His fight to help those less fortunate, who voices carry the least power, reasonates with many who are paying attention to what is occurring in this country, DESPITE BEING IGNORED BY THE CORPORATE MEDIA.
Your hotheaded rants have gotten you in trouble before, but for this reader, this is the stick that broke the camel's back. I will no longer consider you a serious pundit. Get over yourself, already.
