Former Rep. Dick Armey (R-Texas) once referred to fellow Rep. Barney Frank as "Barney Fag." His comment on Wednesday's Hardball to Salon editor-in-chief Joan Walsh -- "I am so damn glad that you could never be my wife, 'cause I surely wouldn't have to listen to that prattle from you every day" -- is more than condescending, snorting, interrupting, infuriating sexist attitude.
This latest Republican embarrassment comes on the same day that we see Congressmen groveling to defend Limbaugh's comment of having to be nice to Obama because he's black.
The same day that the RNC presidential hopeful blamed the media for publicizing his song, "Obama the Magic Negro."
The same day that "real American" Sarah Palin went about establishing a PAC.
The same day that Alberto Gonzalez defended his behavior, once again, as attorney general.
The same day that Karl Rove ignored another congressional subpoena.
And the same day that not one Republican House House member voted for the" bi-partisan" stimulus plan.
What does this seem to tell us?
That the Republican Party is as rotten as Wall Street, and seems intent on continuing to be.
That the hateful comments and bigotry of Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are publicly acceptable to Republican politicians.
That sweeping measures must be passed, and passed with impunity, despite the partisan hacks that run the minority party, if we have any chance of getting past the moral and financial decay of the last eight years.
And further, that we should prosecute the illegal acts of the last administration. Without a full accounting, and justice applied, Dicks such as Cheney and Armey will continue sneering and laughing in the face of all of us.
