Like many of us, I'm sharing this historic night with family and friends and I have high hopes that it will be a celebration .
A few tips:
-- Have cameras and video ready to go.
-- Put out a buffet table so people can graze, and keep it simple. We're eating pizza and crudites.
-- Get an inexpensive sheet cake and have it decorated with something Obama.
-- Use your July 4th flag, plates, napkins. Bring out the stars and stripes if you have a flag and put it near the TV.
-- If you have more than one TV, have each dedicated to a different channel so people can choose. On the main one you can rotate the channels.
-- Use the Internet throughout the night for all kinds of links, not just political. Have someone live blogging to stay up on things.
-- Google historic dates and incidents that reflect on the moment, and discuss during the slow periods.
-- Stay in touch with others throughout the evening, through calls or texts.
-- Buy some sparkling wine to toast when the election is called. Have each person make a toast, and record it.
-- Create a journal, or have people post something on your computer about the evening. Then print the comments out and give each person a copy, preferably before they leave.
This is a moment to remember, and to share. May we all have a wonderful evening!

Now that we've won this thing we're getting silly, which is a perfectly fine reaction after 21 months of nail-biting. Someone suggested a black and white party with big plates of those cookies Seinfeld loved, or a big O party (the food suggested below would be perfect -- the rest is up to you). The point is, keep celebrating whatever way works for you -- alone, with others, here, abroad. Wild, family-style. We have earned it!
None of you make any sense. Those are the strangest ideas I have ever heard.
Why not just get w/ someone you love, put on some romatic music and ....
Oh. Nevermind. How to celebrate the "Election".
My bad ;)
LMBO!
Hawaian feast theme party!
OR all o-shaped foods for the day -
breakfast - cheerios and pineapple rings
lunch - spaghettios
dinner - bagel pizzas, onion rings
dessert - mini donuts
misc snack - circle pretzels, life savers
I LOVE this idea!
I found the perfect celebration song, "We Are The Heart Of America," at www.loveisthecure.com It really speaks to bringing the country together and the production is top notch!
A toast to all of you who had faith and walked the walk and to Tutu who watched the celebration from heaven.
Hey, this is not like watching a football game when your team wins. After winning, the real hard work begins; to fulfill all the promises made and get the economy back to shape.
This is not the time to celebrate. They also celebrated when Bush won. From celebration to hesitation to depression. Real celebration starts when things get well and the economy get back to good health.
You are correct, but there are many of us who have volunteered, donated, canvassed, called, and worked at the polls today (me included). We deserve one night of celebration for a job well done. Tomorrow, the work can begin.
Dear Santa,
President Obama is all we want for christmas....
How true.
Drink Black Russians....toasting to sarah back on her porch forever....
I'm going to swill champagne and listen to that redneck song "Proud to be an American" which has been running through my head all day.
if virgina and indiana go to obama early then the reasons to celebrate will go up dramatically
if its too close to call in many states then it could be al gore all over again with obama winnning popular vote but lose electoral in which case would be one of the saddest days in my life
