Tuesday's court decision favoring Al Franken in the disputed Minnesota Senate race also serves as a boon to the ongoing fight over the Employee Free Choice Act.
Compared to Burris, Mr. Franken's declared victory in the seemingly endless Minnesota senate battle has generated some cheering, for sure, but surprisingly little laughing or hilarity. And what a shame that is.

This writer's schtick is the crumpled up, retrieved letter thing, I've seen three or four of them now. They are always funny, mainly because the letters are always "signed" by someone we all know, and they say things that, under the circumstances, could possibly be true. Great gimmick.
Imagine the sour pusses in right wing being ridiculed in public on congressional floor on CSPAN by Franken? I find this image hillarious and hope they seat him quickly we need some humor in congress and its about time republicans be seen as the fools they are! :-)
The DNC and Franken should run ads, showing the people of the state of Minnesota this letter, assuming it's genuine. This is a total disgrace!
Anyway, IMO Coleman is going to get himself indicted for his money laundering well before his pathetic court case is adjudicated; meaning the Senate can block his being seated, making his attempt to re-write the election a moot point.
This man ought to give up his attempt to hang on and just disappear - like so many other Repulsblicans, like George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and Larry Craig.

Why not add William Jefferson down in Louisiana to that list along with Blogo. And lets add Al Sharpton with his financial troubles to the list also. How bout Spitzer from NY. Hey we could throw in Bill Clinton also. Maybe Barney Frank, Sandy Berger, John Murtha, Rostenkowski, Ted Kennedy... I could go on but what's the use.
You really don't want to get into a pi$$ing match of comparing Corrupt Democrats vs Corrupt Republicans. Because you will lose big time.
Also, the one thing people like miss is that Democrats don't support their corrupt members whereas Republicans celebrate their corrupt members by giving them standing ovations.
Franken and the dems sould be very proud that they were able to steal this seat. If anybody really believes that the recount was on the up and up then you will believe anything. The only problem is that it will come back to haunt them in the end.
Right. And you'd be saying the same thing if the situation was reversed. You'd be typing about how Franken and Democrats should "get over it" and there was "nothing wrong" with the recount. Your sliding scale of ethics is quite obvious.
"Come back to haunt". Haunt, as in Bush's succeeding in shutting down the lawful recounts in Florida haunting the entire world. Had those recounts been allowed to play out per state law, then the truth that Gore was the duly elected president would have come out. As a result, countless innocent lives were lost. --- Haunting indeed.
I have seen the ballot examples that Repubs are trying to use as "evidence" of bias. When you look at the entire ballot, the voter intent is crystal clear. Unfortunately, this is lost on the brainwashed masses in the Rebublican base. They only care that they lost and about what they can do to spin public opinion.
The Coleman campaign, the NRSC, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce ran really shameless and nasty tv ads against Al Franken, portraying him as a foul-mouthed crazy person. Some gullible people actually believe Franken will behave this way on the Senate floor.
The line between satire and reality has been blurred to the point that it's become difficult for some to distinguish between the two.
Yes, what they are really afraid of his pro-union stance. Their slime attacks are to fend off returning some balance to the system so people actually get paid a living wage. Former senator Coleman never did anything to help middle class Minnesotans.
But these days it seems that the lines between humor and "reality" are defintely blurring-big time. Hence the popularity of Stewart/Colbert "news?" reporting.
To say that truth is stranger than fiction has been the norm in 2000-2008?
I have come to expect almost anything out of a politician these days and have become numb to their stupidity and self destruction.
But I remain hopeful that more sober minds will prevail in this new Obama administration.

even in the midst of the satire and irony stewart/colbert are FAR more responsible, fact-based and discerning journalists than ANY of the so-called legitimate news-media outlets, whether they be tele/cable, print or electronic.

Very refreshing Norm. I knew you had it in you.

"sliding scale of ethics", I like that. Mind if I borrow it for future conversations?

Funny stuff. The genuine article would probably be a lot more foul.
It's not funny if it's the real thing...
Heres your sign!

Ah, yes !! Let us wax poetic a bit, on that fine Mr . George Galloway ! Let's hear it for Mr. Galloway.
He appeared when I needed him most. Hip. Hip. Hooray.
Thanks Lee Camp-Very clever

so, what's your beef, dr?
My beef is that for some it becomes sometimes difficult to discern satire from genuine reporting
I love Stewart/Colbert
