This sound clip should be listened to by everyone and we should all remember how he voted on gay Issues. The Hate Crimes Bill, one which would save lives of Gays. There are terrible crimes committed against Gay people. This is tragic and should not occur to people. Senator Craig voted against this much needed Law. Plus many other issues regarding Gay Rights.

No, we need to hear this tape over and over realizing what he and the Republican Party stand for.

Perhaps this is a little pay back time a gift so to speak, for the Republican Party from the state of MN. Remember the bridge and how our Federal Gov. denied them needed help for that bridge.

Imagine being this undercover cop.

When he was told about his new assignment, I guess the conversation went like this.

"Since you look like you're a homosexual, we want you to work undercover in a men's room".

"Gee...thanks".

Yeah, I'm sure that the cops take a lot of ribbing for having to do these jobs.

The public owes them a vote of gratitude for the nastiness of the job, and the ribbing they must take from the other cops.

I listened to the tape, and Craig thoroughly ticked off the cop and the other cop.

I think they were too generous with him, frankly, as they had him dead to rights. I think he used his position as a Senator to intimidate them, and them promising to keep it quiet should be investigated, frankly.

Can we stop with this, please?

This kind of coverage is making me sick. I feel really sorry for Larry Craig. It's just a sad situation all around.

It's more a failing of a culture than the failing of one man. The modern Republican party has created a climate that is so hostile to gays and lesbians that people are forced to kill and suppress their personalities and natures.

Can you imagine going through life with this kind of tortured self-loathing?

I feel sorry for Craig as well. And as far as I am concerned, we can stop this now. HOWEVER, this is not exactly about being gay. It is about out of bounds behavior in public. A similar outrage would occur, I think, if two hetero people, a man and a woman, would act that way in a public bathroom. That would even be more pronounced if one, or both, were prominent pillars of society. Personally, I have a problem with gays acting out in public. Whatever they want to do in private, and I am not for it, nor do I understand it, is their business. The tortured self loathing in this day and age may come, again, from the acting out in public between two persons who are strangers to each other. By the way, I am not so sure that Mr. Craig was not set up. It appears that at least one person has been tracking him for a while and has been blogging about him. The issue is not his alleged homosexuality, but the fact that he voted AGAINST gay issues. We all have to suppress our personalities and natures to conform to what is acceptable in polite society. While acting out in public may come naturally to some, and not only gays, the rest of us also have a right to not be exposed to that. Fair or not?

"The modern Republican party has created a climate that is so hostile to gays"

I'm no republican supporter, but hardly would I say republicans "created" a climate of hostility towards gays.

Haven't you noticed from reading posts on here that homophobia is hardly restricted to tighty righties. A lot of straight men are uncomfortable around gays. Never discount the yuk factor. Many straight men (liberal, conservative and middle of the road) are a little freaked out at the thought of two men having sex.

The main difference is that most liberals can intellectually understand that gay people still deserve to be treated with respect and that their opinion doesn't supercede the rights of gay people.

If you read history, homosexual activity has been considered unacceptable and downright punished for hundreds of years. It's been more of a religious intolerance than political.

However, I believe the US has a unique obligation to support the civil rights of all people, including gays. The US has a special calling to represent all men. Our government should be stepping in and protecting gays from tyranny and persecution.

Of course, churches still have their right to believe as they wish and teach accordingly. They just don"t get to make the laws everyone has to live by.

... You HAVE noticed, though, that most women don't have a hostile bias towards gay/transgender people, haven't you, notexgay? Why is that, I wonder..?! ;) ...
