How many of the late term cases are mercy killings? How many relate to babies that would survive but in an impaired state (i.e. Downs Syndrome)? And how many were more casual "change of mind" cases?
Whether the public is with Democrats on social issues depends entirely on whether they continue to remain silent or whether they speak to the public in ways that address their values and sensibilities.
Operation Rescue's Troy Newman may want to officially distance himself and his organization from violence against providers, but he doesn't want to go as far as to stop socially networking with individuals who endorse it.
In 1993 a group of pro-life and pro-choice advocates was formed to bridge deep divisions about abortion in Buffalo, New York. In October that year, a Buffalo abortion provider was murdered.
Some people know he did the right thing. What I'm not sure of is where that line is, between utter certitude in your beliefs and the willingness to kill for them. On Sunday, it got a lot blurrier.
Raising a child with severe medical or physical deformities tests you and sentences you to a life filled with many obstacles both emotionally and financially.
Abortion foes believe killing in war is justified, as is lethal injection for convicted criminals and they are almost universally in favor of the death penalty.
The same hate machine I was part of is still attacking all abortionists as "murderers." And once again the "pro-life" leaders are busy ducking their personal responsibility for people acting on their words.
Most often, contempt for women drives zealots on the right, who frame issues around reproduction to control, demonize and intimidate women and their doctors.
Tiller was a man who put himself in jeopardy to ensure that a woman would not have to lose her life to infection or complications in an already-doomed pregnancy.
It is undeniably true that there is a dangerous and virulent streak of violence and fascism in American conservatism, now and throughout our country's history.
This right-wing rhetorical strategy is used so often, people barely give it any notice anymore. Calling people "murderers" and "baby killers" has become a normal part of U.S. media.
For those who would like to think Sunday's murder in church of Dr. George Tiller, an abortion provider, is an isolated incident, here's the horrifying news: You are wrong.
I'm sure all of my conservative friends agree, right? Sean Hannity? Rush Limbaugh? Bill O'Reilly? You're all on board for torturing this terrorist detainee, right?
American women need to stand up loud and send a message we are in fact capable and qualified to make our own medical decisions, and we demand the right to do so under the law.
Many children exist in this world only because of abortion. We rarely talk of them. Who do you know who wouldn't be here if a doctor hadn't made a commitment like the one that cost George Tiller his life?
It will take a 75 percent legislative majority to override Palin's veto -- no small feat in a rightward leaning state. It would appear to be a political slap shot headed straight for the net.

It is legal to have an abortion. Nothing else is critical in this neverending, omg-when will it stop, do people have nothing else to think about? debate.
As a democrat whom is anti-abortion, anti-death penalty view it this way, I am not for making any laws making abortion a crime, since this to me is a womans individual sin, which she alone will pay for on judgment day, before the only real justice anyone gets, as to the death penalty and those whom find such joy in a inmates death, I often find a bit of humor in that since how ironic a death row inmate has a golden opportunity only afforded someone on their death bed, dying of old age, sickness, illness knowing they are dying, can make peace with god, truly repent with no chance of "back sliding into sin", now one might see a condemned as unredeemable, unfit for heaven, but ironically we mere human beings will have nothing to say whom gets thru those pearly gates to heaven, since Jesus will be standing there and if he does not know you, God the father will not even look upon you! A condemned no matter what their evil, can enter heaven if they repent, and one can laugh and scoff at this idea but what better moment to find god and regret ones life than then, at that time. How many whom find glee in others deaths will know the moment, hour, day of your demise? Pity not the death row inmate he might get into heaven and you might end in the lake of fire! How ironic is that?
If a 12 year old is raped by her father-happens every single day- and she gets pregnant and decides not to bear her sibling.....are you still going to stand there with your bible and tell her that it is her sin that she will be judged for? What happened to your golden rule,JUDGE NOT!Shouldnt real Christians act in the body of Christ????
I used to walk to school with a friend who was clearly being raped by her step father. I was about 9 years old and I could see something was wrong. I hope she never got pregnant to add worse to an already bad situation.
who are you to say what is sin? it is a sin for you to pretend to be g0d by judging others. maybe the sin is your lack of understanding why a woman would have to take such a drastic step. you probably don't even fully understand the issues but this is a great chance to "take a stand" for something you know nothing or little about. you are not helping.
anyone who believes in the myths of heaven and hell is not rational. there is no proof so they don't exist. I know, i know, it satisfies your christian need for revenge, vulgarity and barbarism. the human mind cannot even appreciate what eternity is and you have the nerve to spread lies that a person can burn in a mythological place called hell for ever? You should be sentenced to 1/2 a second in your fictional hell for what you are doing. even a non-believer like me would know that's 1/2 a second too long.
Republicans today are our modern day version of biblical times "Pharisee's" whom paid lip service to God, and when faced with son of god Jesus exposed themselves as hypocrites when as in the parable of the adulteress, tried to trick Jesus into contradicting Gods & mans law of the time which called for one punishment for her crime of adultery "death by stoning"! All one has to do is read this one parable and see the connection, Republicans often quote the old testament for justification of death penalty, jusfiable killing, and then harken back to Jesus to be critical of abortion, imagine Jesus today facing a angry crowd of Republicans demanding the death of a condemned criminal, and how just as in his time with the Pharisee's he would tell them he was not there to change the law but to fulfill it, and let he that hath no sin cast the first stone, none could, all would walk away condemned of their very own souls, and the only one qualified to kill in name of justice or God the son of Jesus did not kill or stone the adulteress he forgave her and told her go and sin no more! GOP/Republicans are our modern day version of biblical Pharisee's, using religion to maintain their power, control, enriching themselves with earthly gold, gems, treasures! This debate in that lake of fire will be one hot and eternal debate on "end justified the means theory of their lives"!
"Scream in the name of silence.." - brilliantly put, Lee. The insanity and hypocrisy about who a woman's body REALLY belongs to has to stop somewhere, sometime - what better place than here, what better time then now..?
WRONG. The murderer has been honored on the ARMY OF GOD WEBSITE AS AN ETERNAL BROTHER,SO HE MAY HAVE ACTED ALONE BUT HE WAS IN CONCERT WITH OTHER RIGHT WING FUNDAMENTALISTS -TERRORIST -ORGANIZATIONS. IF HE WAS SO ALONE ON THIS WHO WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OTHER ATTACKS ON TILLER? YOU PICK THINGS APART TO SUIT YOURSELF.NOT REALITY. THERE IS A REASON DHS HAS PLACE THE WINGNUTS ON THE WATCH LIST. HOW ABOUT THE TILLER WATCH WEBSITE,COUNTING DOWN UNTIL HIS DEATH.GET YOUR FACTS!
4,500 American babies were killed in an unnecessary war, 100,000 Iraqi babies are dead because of that war, millions of babies are in prisons and jails, thousands of babies sit on death row waiting to die. what does all of that have to do with a woman making a difficult decision? How many babies have you adopted? how many people have you helped to get birth control so that they don't have to face a difficult decision? how much research have you done on the difficulty of giving birth to a baby if your life is at risk? what do you konw about being told if you give birth to this baby it will suffer all of its life? thousands of babies are born everyday, unwanted, because of abstinance only programs. our babies are sent to substandard schools everyday. the poorest demographic in the country: babies. think with year head and your heart. empathize.

That was a true moment of clarity. Hypocrisy is deadly.
I don't believe in sin. I believe in legal.

They live such hypocrisy and that's why, thankfully the numbers of self-identified atheists are rising all over the nation. Yay to logic.

FAITH proved, again, THAT FAITH IS
REALLY BAD, BAD GARBAGE!
Lone wacko gunman... had nothing to do with faith, mentally ill individuals do not deal well with faith.
The concept of love your enemy just goes right by the mentally ill.
:-)

Funny how the "wacko" was guided to do what he did by non-wackos who spout hatred. Hate-speech kills real people.
"Makes you want to scream in the name of silence."
Lee, you've got that right!
Right!
Oh, I get it. Don't kill babies...w ait 'til they grow up and then kill them.
65,000 babies have been prevented from growing up!!!
4,500 American babies were killed in an unnecessary war, 100,000 Iraqi babies are dead because of that war, millions of babies are in prisons and jails, thousands of babies sit on death row waiting to die. what does all of that have to do with a woman making a difficult decision? They are hypocrites and too crazy to understand it. Religion turns the rational mind to mush.
Religion clears the mind, humans turn rational thought into mush by refusing faith based morals.
Human based morals don't exist.
roflmao...
I used to use that little excuse to hold on to religion. Research proved me wrong and now I'm free. Good luck with that. Knowledge is power.
Lee Camp is my new favorite philosopher. Genius. I go to your website now. :D
Well put. Well put indeed. I love these Moments of Clarity.
